I know the ps2 bios is OTP (one time programming) and I always though it was a difficult process to remove an SMD chip like the bios BUT resently I have started working in a factory where SMDs are the main think we do and I have started soldering kinds of those chips (not like those butt with same pins etc..)

    and its pretty easy!!

Now I was thinking maybe we can develope a bio for ourselves and programm it into another OTP!!

    it this impossible?
    it this stupid??
or maybe its a good idea?

dont just read this just write something !!

it's 1/2 bios and 1/2 dvd controller patching, if you were to take a bios image of a modded ps2, and made a new bios, it would still require dvd patching, and wouldn't be 100% compatible with all games.

well, if you look in the homebrew section RCE added a nobus revision to the ICE code, basically the neo4 patching in 9 bios wires, the scex signal, and power/ground, it will only allow you to boot cd-r's by fooling the ps2 into thinking there's a ps1 game in the drive by sending scex signal, and also patching the bios to tell the ps2 what type of game is really in there...basically if you were to rewrite a bios that would be the starting point, since you will no longer be able to select ps2/ps1/dvd modes etc. you'd have to have code in the bios to tell the ps2 how to distinguish between ps1/dvd/ps2cd/and ps2dvd etc.. then after you put a new bios in, you'd have to send signal through scex depending on what media is in the drive, and the ps2 bios is what 50 pins now, not a simple task.

sx's are pretty available, PIC's probably wouldn't have enough input/output pins to do the job, and most that will write code will only do it for money, and PIC's are too easy to rip that nobody would do it.
