Without modchip or homebrew software a PS2 will not 'accept' running games from anything except original pressed game discs.

You can get FMCB (Free McBoot) installed and use this to boot all homebrew softwares.

Those include ESR which is a fairly new game launcher capable of booting games off burned DVD-R discs. Normally the CDVD processor of the console would not accept such discs as readable, but a special patch of the disc content tricks that processor into regarding the disc as a DVD-Video movie, thus allowing it to be read even from burned media.

You can also use FMCB to launch USBAdvance/USBExtreme, which will be able to run some games from a USB-connected HDD. But the performance is not good, due to the low speed of the USB 1.1 port of the console, and game compatibility is quite bad, with less than half of all games working properly...

So ESR is a better alternative for running backups on a slim PStwo, since the game compatibility of ESR is extremely good (upwards of 99%).

    Best regards: dlanor

Don't forget that you will need to install the FMCB boot system, in order to use ESR.
You will find lots of information on both FMCB and ESR in the FreeVAST subforum inside the forum for Homebrew/Dev stuff.

You can use the Free Installation Service to get FMCB on one of your MCs for free:
    http://psx-scene.com/forums/freevast...b-for-you.html
    Slim PS2 SCPH-70004 (v13) w/ FMCB, 3x Sony 8MB, 1x MaxMemory 16MB (Backup card)

I'm not available for FMCB installation service until I can guarantee a processing time of a few days again, sorry.
