You can use Save Slicer to split the save into individual pieces, you could use it to slice out the data section containing the roster info but it's then up to you to make sence of the data which may be in hex format.

Download save slicer from www.ps2savetools.com (beta 2 is currently only avaliable to members and beta 3 is on the cards)

What game is it. I'm trying the exact same thing for Pro Evo Soccer 2, noone has replied to my question though

I have made sense of much of the hex, using a hex editor called xvi32, I found out on the www somewhere.

Trouble is when I edit the hex, and upload the xps sile back to the PS2 the game itself complains that the file is corrupted.

I'm assuming that this game has a checksum that I haven't yet figured out.

I use Ultraedit32 for most of my needs, it's a powerfull text/hex editor and I also have Hex Workshop installed for when I need it's advanced features (better comparison options for binary files for example)

I'm not sure what to say to you yeametal, perhaps you should read a primer on hex and base 16, it will give you the basic knowlege you need (for example 34 in hex (base 16) is 22)

sfcmike, you sure you are editing an area that does contain something you can edit? If so I sympathise, I hate games with checksums on their saves Try increasing one value by one and decrease another by one, that should get past the checksum if one is present

Gothi, yes I believe I am trying to edit stuff that the game allows you to do within the game, i.e. player names. The rationale being that I should be able to edit that information, then if that works I should be able to edit stuff that it won't normally allow you to do.

I like the idea of changing two values in unison, certainly worth a shot.

I will report back to you on that.

Re: understanding hex / binary, yes I agree, there's no point even trying to edit the sps file if you don't understand the basics, i.e. you might be looking at hex, but is it a representation of information that is really in binary. Sometimes if you are lucky , the info is in clear text.

It's easier (and probably cheaper) to buy the cable rather than trying to make it yourself
