    Hi!

I have access to a few memory card images. I have noticed that when I view them in a hex editor, there seems to be a part of the FAT that appears encrypted.

When I load these images with FMCB's virtual memory card tool all of the files appear. I see several files in the VMCU that have filenames that do not appear in the image.

    What's happening here?
Is there some sort of encryption on these cards that the VMCU decrypts when loaded? Could someone point me in the right direction to learn more about this encryption, please?

Is there source available for the FMCB VMCU?

Easiest way to put it, the FMCB source code is not available to the general public.. Yes it is encrypted..

    Did I miss something ?
What the heck is a "VMCU" ?

I know we have various VMC tools, but I never heard of one by that name.
And certainly not as a standard part of the FMCB package...

So what's up with that stuff ?

    Best regards: dlanor

I never heard of it also.
FMCB isn't related to VMC-Stuf in any direct way, beside starting Homebrews which have support for it.

Let me state the painfully obvious - I'm not really a PS2 kind of guy. We have sort of a hate-hate relationship.

On a side note, you guys can have a laugh at this: I called some "ps2 modder" person and asked if he could give me a copy of cogswap......

Anyway, so my FMCB came with a "file browser" option and I assumed that was part of FMCB. It seems it's actually uLe. The virtual memory card tools in uLe seem to be able to load my PS2 memory card images without issue - while viewing them in a hex editor or similar shows a block of some sort of encryption in the middle of the FAT.

Any help on what this encryption is and how to decrypt it would be extremely appreciated. It's clearly possible after viewing the card images through the virtual memory card tool.

Please give me any hint you can on how I can do this.
