Problem with 64 MB Sony memory card.

Hi.

I bought a 64 MB Sony memory card.

I installed Fremcboot, then pad tester, SMS player, and another couple thing.
And still have lot and lot of space for gamesaves ...

I bougt another two, and i have a problem. Cant install anything, unable to copy even a savegames from mine to them. Only says Copy failed.

I opened them, and there are all different chips ...

Two of them are SAMSUNG, one is ... i cant even read ....

How to solve this, help me please .... can i reset them somehow, with some program, or something?

I bought a 64 MB Sony memory card.

There are no official 64MB Memory Cards. The only official Memory Card produced by Sony was only 8MB in capacity.

It's quite likely that the card you have bought is actually an imitation, but with a capacity of 64MB.

Try formatting it... and it may solve your problems if the problems you have was caused by filesystem corruption on the card. I think that all the memory cards (2 Original SCE 8MB PS2 MCs, and a DragonPlus PS1 MC) come unformatted, and you were required to format them before use (The PS2 browser asks me to format them).

I am not sure what you can use to format your card, but I know that the FMCB installer can format Memory Cards.

Or it could have just been that the card is a defect (Or you have been cheated).

Two of them are SAMSUNG, one is ... i cant even read ....

That "unknown" one is Hynix. They seem to manufacture memory chips too.

That '64MB Sony" card is definitely a fake, sony would NEVER sell a 64MB card for $5.99US!!

The REAL 8MB Sony cards are still selling on average for $20US and it is the ONLY size they sell, although they did license some companies to sell MCs, i dont think any of them have a 64MB one available.

I dont know, the box looks real, the card looks real .... and i never had a problem with the old one ...... it works great ...

I format it, but the problem is still there ....

I manage to install, one is normal install , the other is mutiple, but thats all.

When i try to copy SMS on them, and to make a route in congigurator, it just wont do it ....

Any kind of force format, or something like that?

That is how those "clones" are meant to look, to fool people into thinking they are real....otherwise no one would buy them.

If you have successfully installed FMCB, did you try adding those apps to the APPS folder and let FMCB Installer copy them to the APPS folder on MC?

If that failed and uLaunchELF fails to copy them, then there isnt much you can do to get them onto the MC. Maybe there is a filesize restriction as ps2 Memory Cards were only meant for game saves from these 3rd party companies.

I dont know what else i could say to try, as the 64MB card i have is from Datel and it works fine for everything. It did cost me $40, but seemed worth it at the time i bought the card, which was before FMCB was available.

Im telling you, it is real Sony lookalike ..... il upload a few photos tonight when i arrive home .... even SONY sign in plastic, not only printed .....

God, these people .... they can copy everything.

Im gonna open tonight and my first sony card, 8 MB, that i buy in store the same day i buy PS2 to see what chip is in it ... is it original ...

is there some thread on forum with pics of inner place of memocards? to see wich are original?

Unfortunately, they really can clone products down to every minor detail.

Look at the huge number of non-licensed clones of SCE's PSP batteries... many of them even perform worse than SCE's one despite stating a higher capacity.

You can't really tell a legit card from a fake one just by looking at the chip. Some fake ones even use the same chips as the originals, but the PCB quality is often inferior.

I don't know where you can find images of the insides of an original SCE MC, but I do know that legit SCE MCs are:

1. 8MB in capacity.
2. Usually come unformatted (Personal Experience)
3. Have a green PCB (My imitation one from Thailand has a yellow PCB).
4. The prints on the front of the MC are sharp, clear and do not look faded (Or "old" looking).

The last point is a common factor, even for PSP memory sticks. Cheap imitations use a cheaper method to imprint the text on the plastic, while SCE uses a better method (But a more expensive one).

There should also be no "extra" stickers (E.g. shiny OEM stickers, or Manufacturing Dates) stuck anywhere on the MC (Except for the standard sticker at the back).

So, you see, package is 1.st class, cards alone looks great, print, blue color, PS logo, sony logo in plastic made, not just printed ....

Nowadays everything can be copied exactly, don't get too excited Even though I'm quite happy with my fake china made 128MB. The FMCB installer doesn't like it but I really don't care as I have a genuine (I guess) 8MB with the FMCB on it. It's capacity is really 128MB as I tested it many times and that's what I call value for money - bought by my sister for only 10 ca$ from ebay It's a little bit thiner and has to be plugged in the slot with a more precise move and sometimes after reset can't be recognized by the console but after re-plugging works again
