I'm fairly familiar with S-JIS, but I don't think FFX saves use it, but the file you attached is very helpful!
You've reached the point I'm at with Disgaea... Figuring out the checksum can be a real pain. The checksum utility from ps2savetools.com requires that you know the location, size and type of checksum used, out of a virtually infinite range of possibilities. Apparently, there are magazines in Japan that list these things, but we're not in Japan...
If anyone knows how to get a hold of these magazines and/or links to internet sites with this info, I have friends fluent in Japanese. They could actually be really helpful if we could find some of that information.
Do NTSC-J games have the same checksum values as NTSC-N.A., or are those mag articles next to useless for any other region? (And PAL, if you live on the other side of the pond.) Otherwise, all the Japanese mags in the world aren't gonna help us filter through this mess.
I don't see any reason why they would use different checksums, and I know that you can freely change the region of the saves without messing up the checksums. I have a close friend who teaches Japanese at the University here, and he takes groups to Japan over summers for study abroad. I could ask him if he could look the neaxt time he goes, but he's not a gamer at all... I think it's unlikely that we'll be able to find them physically.
