    I have a japanese ps2 SCHP 50000 (the white W32 one)
    versions:

    Console SCPH-50000
    Browser 1.40
    CD Player 2.00
    PlayStations Driver 1.02
    DVD Player 3.02

I burn a cd that says it installs the files to the memory card and it says it installs ok. When i reboot it doesn't call the exploit, it just loads the ps1 game. I am sure i've done the title.db properly, i even had a friend who's done it talk me through it (although he has an australian ps2) so we don't know whats wrong. The game i am using is SLPS_006.36
Might it be that the game doesn't work? Is there a cheap japanese game that I could get that we know DOES work?

I'm i have idea whats wrong and i've burnt so many coasters i'm starting to stick them to the wall in a pretty pattern, weeeeee!!!! (going crazy?!?!)

Any ideas at all please please please please please!

Apparently your console can at least boot CD-R disks without problems, judging by your description of what you have done. Thus I suggest that you burn a CD-R containing some software that lets you browse the MC directories 'manually', such as the latest LaunchELF version (currently v3.33).

You can then use this to check that all installed stuff has been placed in the correct folder, which for use of exploit on a japanese console should be:

    mc0:/BIDATA-SYSTEM/

You can also check, and if necessary correct the file names used, which for exploit should be "BOOT.ELF" and "TITLE.DB". Note that upper/lower casing is always significant on the PS2, and that normal usage of the exploit demands upper-case. In your post above, you used lower-case for 'title.db', which will not work on the PS2 !

    Hey,

yeah i'm aware of the case thing and the directory etc, the problem i'm having is that some of the cd-r disks I make don't work. The execftps one comes up with a "did not find path" error which i have read somewhere is because it clashes with swap magic, which I use. I tried hdloader and it just booted to a red screen, I also tried ps2menu-k which I can't get to boot at all... I've made many coasters trying this. I've been at it for nearly 2 days straight and i'm getting nowhere
