Max Memory 64 Format help
Max Memory 64 Format help –
11-13-2005,07:33 PM
I accidentally formatted my Max Memory 64MB Card for PS2 using AR Max Evo and it only formatted to 32MB. How can I Hard-format my memory card and get back the full 64MB of my MC?
I have tried to use the Memory Card format ELF I found on exploitstation.com via a PS2 Menu Loader on CD but the screen just goes black on running. The Menu loader does work with AR Max EVO, and PS2 game emulator ELFs.
I have also tried installing the exploit on another MC, installed ok but can't get a menu screen to load (I used FF8-PAL as a trigger PS1 CD).

I had the same problem as you guys do. Here is the problem. We bought the 64 Meg Memory card from Datel. Thier Software doesnt even seem to notice the card is 64 megs so it asks you to format it to work with thier software and when you do it ends up a 32 meg card! I did the same thing and presto I was screwed with a 32 meg card. (64 meg card formatted to 32 megs!)
Well, the final soultion was , I called up datel and they said I was not to use that card with thier software cause it was incompatible. They said for me to send them my 64 meg (reformatted to 32megs) card and they would reformat it and they would send it back to me, but NOT to use it with the ARM again as it wont work.
So I paid for shipping and sent it back, 2-3 weeks later I recieved the card back and it was again 64 Megs.
When I was on the phone with them (datel), I asked if they could update thier software to work with the 64 Meg cards, and if so could I trade in my ARMax I just bought for a new version and they replied "Our Software is currently incompatible with the 64 Meg Cards. Sorry."
They didnt even answer my question or anything.... I dont like Datel as much anymore.... Shortly after I got my new formatted 64 Meg card vibration quit working on the PS2 controllers due to a fuse blowing in the system because my MGS 3 Snake Eater was incompatible with the 64 Meg card causing you to pull it out and put it back in the system. I dont use any controllers but Sony brand, so that narrowed it down to the card and that game combo.... I just use Sony brand cards now... I keep things backed up on the HDD.
So call Datel or email them your issue and get it ready to send it out to them. :P

I tried to contact Datel back in July and simply asked if the 64MB one was compatible with X-port. I'm pretty sure the X-port software can format 8, 16, and 32MB cards but I wasn't sure about the 64MB one.
My last responce from them was also in July: "We are still looking into this issue and apologize for the delay in responding. We will contact you again shortly when we have more information."
I take it they didn't know. After reading the comments here, I sure won't format it with any Datel software. So it looks like if the card gets corrupted you don't have any other option but to send it to Datel. I was afraid of that.
After waiting a month or so I bought one anyway but now these exist. One can only wonder how well the 64MB and 128 MB Expansion Memory Cards work.

At a guess it's just some flash memory and it will require you to plug a MagicGate enabled memory card into it for you to use it.
Incidently, some games are hardcoded not to work with any card that is not 8 megs :|

I have tried many things including trying to get memory card exploit to work and using ELF programs to format the card...couldn't get the exploit to work but came across this tool on another forum, (surprisingly from here!).
Tried to use it to format my card and it works! I now got 64MB on my card and it works perfectly. Just a note...when you press START button to format...be very patient as it does take a good minute or two to complete the format. Don't switch off your PS2 until you get the format complete confirmation.

Yeah I figured that would be the case for some games that's why I still use my 8MB sony cards. I haven't used the 64MB datel one yet but plan on using it for uLaunchELF future developments. Dlanor has some good ideas so if I get around to helping him then that larger card should come in handy.

That's great hopefully Marconobi gets the word.
Although there is another mc killer done by those at consoleworld formerly ps2world. It is called mcformatter and you can also get it at ps2bins it's MCFormatter.rar. Not sure if it works any better for formatting the 64MB card but it's newer.
