Not likely. It's probably a formatting error being misinterpreted.
Though I've never seen any myself, I've heard of early versions of the Max memory cards which were not compatible with normal MC formatting, but required a special disc. Possibly this has something to do with your problem, but that's just a guess...

If you have the Max Memory with the CD then I'd use the formatting tool on the disc. If I remember correctly you push square with the card highlighted.

Actually it isn't 'warez' if he possesses the hardware for which that software was made, and which was only ever sold with a copy of that software included. Even if the original customer lost that copy before passing the unit on to the present owner, whoever has that hardware is a legitimate user of its software. It might be 'warez' to you or me, not having that product, but it won't be for someone who does have it. And if one such user wants to share his copy with another legitimate user of the same hardware, I see no problem with that.
This reasoning becomes all the more relevant when considering the fact that the software in question can't possibly serve any useful purpose for anyone NOT having the hardware it was made for.
However, the big question here is if that is the kind of MC he has, or if his problem is due to some other cause. That question still hasn't been answered with any certainty.

In all likelyhood he has the non-CD requiring Max Memory and therefore asking for a copy of the Max Memory CD is asking for warez.
How do I know he has the non-CD requiring version? Because if I remember correctly, the CD requiring version needs the CD to function. A simple bit of logic leads a long way
Not to mention Datel's lawyers would tear your argument to pieces I'm afraid Dlanor and sharing of copyrighted software should not be encouraged in a public forum.
And in the unlikley event that he didn't get a CD and has been using his card without it then he could simply ask customer services for a replacement CD
Anyway, all off-topic, the card is currently hosed. I would consider contacting Datel's customer services, telling them that after a format the card is reporting as being way oversized and asking for a replacement which hopefully they'll provide on receipt of the faulty unit.

Remember the closing statement of my last post ?
Where I said that the 'big question' is if he really has that hardware...
That's what makes the difference between warez/legitimate request here.

Perhaps, but the same logic applies both ways here, as there is no possible way to get any use out of that CD without the corresponding memory card. There simply is no point in running that software then.

Now you have to be kidding. You can't really be entertaining the idea that a money-hungry company like Datel would pay a single cent to have lawyers dig into a case of someone having a copy of software that can ONLY work with a legitimate Datel product. For anyone else that CD is less useful than a blank disc.

Which I never did. (I refer you again to the 'big question' I closed with.)

Good point, though I have my doubts about Datel's reliability for such support. (Especially with an obsolete product, no longer making them any money.)

Another good point, and though I still have my doubts about Datel customer support, it can't hurt to try.

I'm not prepared to go into a big "what is warez, what isn't warez" discussion, especially not right in the middle of a different topic but we can ascertain that:
1) The product he has is the non-CD version, if it wasn't he wouldn't be able to use the card at all.
2) The software on the CD, regardless of whether it has any use outside of it's intended product or not, is copyrighted and it is illegal to distribute it as originally requested.
3) I didn't say that Datel laywers would chase this up, just that they would tear your argument to pieces.
4) People turn a blind eye to things like this, but if the board got known for being a place where people could freely trade warez then that blind eye could suddenly turn into the interested eye of the lawyers and I don't want this place shut down or under any legal threat.
5) The OP wants the CD for a function it provides but it is not part of his product, asking for it is asking for a product he has not paid for.
When I worked at Datel and the customer service was pretty decent and contacting them is clearly the first step the OP should have taken rather than asking for warez on a public board.
I'm happy to continue the discussion of warez etc in an Off Topic/General discussion thread if you'd like?
