Using random scrambling for stat nodes is a good idea for creating an even distribution without just using a static pattern. It can also be combined with a method similar to the one I used in maximizing empty nodes with evenly distributed stats. You just need to be careful about how you do it, so no nodes are wasted on a stat which has already exceeded a total sum of 255 on the grid.
True, but this can also lead to interesting variations for those who have already played the normal game variations 'to death'. But for such players I think the best 'challenges' would be the removal of selected important abilities, to make the game harder.Quote:
I have found that scrambling the ability nodes makes for rather lousy gameplay since like abilities end up in different areas of the grid, making a natural progression of abilities as the character levels up impossible.
In the challenge game I made for myself earlier I have now reached the 'final buildup' stage, with all areas open for monster hunting and six areas completed so as to get the materials for 'Overdrive->AP' so crucial for advanced training. And with Rikku having ignored all HP nodes while still having killed hundreds of easy enemies, her training sessions with Don Tonberry easily raises the Sphere Levels of the entire company as I please. (She using 'Stoic' and the others using 'Comrade' overdrive mode.) But I am now at the stage where I'd normally use 'Bribe' to get materials for good equipment customization, like Auto-Haste etc, so I'm really starting to feel the lack of that 'Bribe' ability, having to rely more on the 'SOS' abilities instead, since they require less materials and of kinds that are easy to steal.
