So I left Rebug last night since as long as I can recall and was happy in all but one area. My PS3 even being a CECH-2501A with new AS5 and clean as a whistle runs over 70 degrees Celsius. So I tried to get the settings to work upon boot like it did with Rebug. Using Rebug it would only have to be reset if I removed the power cord otherwise it never failed keeping my PS3 at a cool 60 degrees Celsius. So I went looking around and found MLT's System Manager ported over to 4.46 RogerO to handle executing self files upon boot. It has been keeping my PS3 below 70 degrees Celsius even after an hour of straight play of GTAV PSN version.
The downfall about this is I can't adjust the speeds as it is using the standard "payload" option from Estwald but something is better then nothing right? The dev at first had a required $1.99 donation fee and was booed about charging for open source work even if it did go to a good cause. So the dev promised to make it your option to donate and he came though making the app and free to use (the modified files are and ;have always been free) but now the app only supports 4.50 and not 4.46 to make the settings go any higher. SEE EDIT BELOW APP NOW FREE FOR 4.46 USERS AS WELL
I have messaged him in hopes of seeing his tool set back ported or adding both since the introduction of this new firmware a lot of folks will show interest. Heck if I understood Spanish I am sure there are ways to do so with setting a flag. I have not gotten that far into this as of yet. Anyhow a lot of those users need to use the Control Fan Utility without the annoyance of running the app every time this including myself. So I went and got the 4.46 System Manager files going through the installation. The end result was a firmware that supports loading self files as well as sprx files. No more need to worry about temps or booting an app to load a game or FTP over a PKG from a NTFS drive. I love the PS3 scene!!
Now I will post how I installed for use with Cobra v7.00/RogerO v1.00 hybrid CFW's System Manager s my meager attempt to give back and maybe stop a few repeat post over and over again. It is fairly easy and I would suggest anyone doing it as worst case is you semi-brick and must recover via re-installation of the firmware using the PS3 in recovery mode, no flasher required. This is another one of my guides but most taken from the readme included in the zip file below.
Hopefully we will see the software to bump up the speeds for lower temps. Now as far as I can tell all flags that work for MLT 4.40 CFW work just fine using Cobra 7.00 CFW as it was ported from that manager. There is a newer one for 4.50 but I would not take any info from the net about that CFW. This does stuff like keeping the USB awake and much much more info can be found on one of the "other" PS3 sites explaining the flags, what they were, how to use/remove flags and much much more in English. "GIYF" <===== Google that as "Google Is Your Friend" in this matter. I have tried on two models now one slim one phat. CECH-2501 and CECHL-01A tested by me personally and working great. Maybe if this all sees some attention it will spark the dev to look into it but till then I have a little more info from the guy that ported the System Manager to 4.46 CFW's.How to use:
Read the intruction carefully. Use at your own risk. I dont responsible for
any bricks if you do not follow step by steps below.
1. You must use Cobra v7.00/Rogero Hybrid CFW, Rogero 4.46 CFW, or Habib 4.46 CFW only. Rebug (NOT SUPPORTED AND WILL BRICK)
2. Dump/back up your PS3 flash using multiMAN (you can googling it to find how).
3. Make back up of sys_init_osd.self
How to : using multiMAN mmOS on PS3, navigate to dev_flash/sys/internal and find file named:
sys_init_osd.self. Copy this file to your USB or your PC and safe it in secure location.
4. Extract rogero patcher.zip on your PC. You will find 2 files : sys_init_osd.self and sm.self.
5. Now using multiMAN, enable write access to dev_flash (on multiMAN,
go to Settings -> Write Access to /dev_flash -> Enable
6. Copy sys_init_osd.self on folder patch cfw from test file to your PS3. Copy it to:
dev_blind/sys/internal (replace the old sys_init_osd.self).
7. Copy sm.self on folder fan control from test file to your PS3. Copy it to the root of dev_blind.
8. Turn off your PS3, unplug all usb drive.
9. Turn on your PS3.
10. Check your PS3 Power Indicator LED, if it is yellow (with green LED after few seconds then yellow again);
it indicates that the fan control is working fine.If your PS3 cannot boot to XMB; it indicates your PS3 is
semi brick and you cannot use CFW Tools because it is not compatible with your PS3.
11. I also include core for fast booting, copy flags Folder into Root of a FAT32 Flash memory.
Turn off your Ps3
Connect your Flash memory to the nearest port to Blu-ray drive.
now Turn on your PS3
This greatly improves the boot time.
Code:##IMPORTANT TO RECOVER SEMIBRICK CONSOLE if you have semibrick when test this tools, use this procedure to recover it: a. Copy file sys_init_osd.self from your backup in Step 3 to the root of FAT32 USB Drive. b. Turn Off PS3. c. Insert your USB/External HD to your PS3 in your right port (Closest to the Blue Drive). d. Turn on PS3. if above does not work, try reinstalling CFW (Rogero or Habib 4.46 CFW)
Now go game worry free and do not mind the yellow light it means your PS3 is running at the right speed. Green now is the trouble area. Nothing I can do about that one guys sorry as it irritates me as well. Well worth it as now I have NTFS support, auto loading of self & plugins upon boot, all emulators unlocked, and network loading. It is like a huge PS3 X-Mas gift was dropped on my arse totally unexpected and filled every wish I had for the system. I have not turned on my dual boot RGH 360 in over 14 or more months now since I beat Gears of War 3 the only reason to have the system IMO. Comes to the dark side Gears and ditch that inferior machine!!
System Manager for 4.46 CFW
The dev has reposted v1.20 and as promised it is totally free to use!!! Comes with an activation code, tested it and the tools are working great.
