    This topic was split from this other thread:
    http://psx-scene.com/forums/f293/ps2...s-only-103096/

    We thought it would be best to separate the two types of hacks, so people can follow each one on their own.

    you can find the games that have hax widescreen hex codes for ps2 or widescreen hex codes for ps2

    I will be providing my codes on this thread and also providing support.

    480p Hex Codes?
    You can also use HEX ISO to render games to 480p. Check out this post: http://psx-scene.com/forums/f293/ps2...ml#post1042266 (PS2 Widescreen Hack (Hex ISO Codes Only))

    Tutorial: How to FIND/REPLACE HEX ISO CODES with HxD Editor:

    You will need HxD edtor (free version): HxD - Freeware Hex Editor and Disk Editor | mh-nexus

    Part 1: Disable the BACKUP feature in HxD Editor:
    It's recommended to disable the backup feature in HxD Editor for these projects, because it will take a long time to finish your work. I recommend that if you need to make a backup of your ISO, just do it in Windows instead with this program. I necessarily don't do backups of my ISOs, because I have confidence that I can always go back and reverse the changes of the HEX ISO CODES. So it's up to you.

    Follow the screenshots below to learn how to do PART 1. (Steps: A and B).

    Part 2: Find/Replace HEX ISO CODES and SAVE your ISO:
    NOTE: Please do PART 1 above, before proceeding to PART 2 below.

    Follow the screenshots below to learn how to do PART 2. (Steps: 1 thru 11).

    xploder, but if you noticed there is no black borders, because real game resolution changed from 512x448 to 640x448

    and if resolution can be changed by editing hex code in elf file, then and aspect ration can be changed

    @nemesis2000:

    Congratulations on your findings. What program did you use to directly change game elf files? I do not know the exact process to change hex values in iso files. I think that is the way to go for the hacks, as it will let us get rid of ps2rd or codebreaker. We can directly release iso patches.

    As you have said, your approach of course can be applied for aspect ratios too, we already have the needed addresses and values for 16:9 hacks and we should change game elf files according to those.

    please continue to do your research. I believe most of the games' original resolution can be changed, if we search enough. Unfortunately there won't be a universal method.
    Please contact me if you can make a PS2 VGA cable with SoG stripping. All costs will be covered by me.

    Isn't this value a line doubler?
    I think it's the same of what GSM does and it will technically look inferior to 480/576i because it will practically just double the even lines to fill the screen and discard the rest ones resulting nto half visible resolution.
    (No offence intended to GSM devs, I love GSM)

    So I would need a HEX editor and find the value in the header? How big is the header?
    I'm no noob, I just don't post much :P

    There is a value at the header but I think it gets ignored because it must be just the reference resolution of the region, the responsible values and what we need are stored on a place depending on the section that they are used (Ingame-Menus-CG Cutscenes etc).
    Don't worry I'll find the KH2FM one.
    Ah also, to mention it here too, you can pretty like forget the possibility of a widescreen hack on Kingdom Hearts (1).
    To give a sort answer to why so (because it's complicated), the game's Error Handling architecture does not allow such modifications to be done without forcing the game to freeze or recover at its previous state (meaning before the value editing).
    If we someday be able to edit the values inside the ELF file then this would work flawlessly but it won't work by live-editing the RAM values.

    @nemesis2000:

    Did you notice frame drop on final fantasy XII with 640 x 448 mode? and how could you find the addresses in the first place? I want to try other 512 x 448 games too.

    @All:

    Does anyone know a way to apply the widescreeen cheats to game elfs , and tell the exact process. This will be needed sooner or later if we don't want to choose between progressive mode and widescreen mode.

    again @All:

    Does anyone know a way to hex edit elfs for progressive mode except ps2force480p.exe? It is hit-and-miss. I am talking about a manual way.

    with the addresses i gave before, it is possible to choose a horizontal resolution between 2 and 1024 in gt4. Can you believe such versatility? When i chose 1024, the fps i got in pcsx2 halved, so it won't be very useful for ps2 i guess, but for pcsx2, it might be useful.

    If someone wants to try to find resolution values for games a starting point (which i used myself too) might be No. 47's post about games which change resolutions when progressive mode is choosed. http://psx-scene.com/forums/f19/gs-m...tml#post960505

    try these games with pcsx2 and with cheat engine search the resolution values before and after the new vmode is chosen. For gran turismo 4, i chose 2 bytes, but every game might store it different. At least we are sure these games change resolution and they must be stored somewhere.

    Also some games have different resolutions in-game and in-menu. They are good candidates too.
