Will there be any sign of a beta coming soon?
This is brilliant![]()
True, and it's possible it will take a while to complete.
Right now I work quite hard on it. I've recently fixed the transparency issues you've seen on some of the screenshots. Added proper draw area clipping (by scissoring), so windows with text and similar do work as they should now (no text being displayed above or beyond them). Also added proper scaling and few other things. Implemented mdec display (it was lost when I moved from software gpu to hardware gpu, as it is usually written directly into framebuffer, not into texture area and displayed as sprite... And since the emulated gpu doesn't support direct framebuffer writes - well, it supports it, as everything is in emulated psx vram, but is not displayed, as it's a quite complex stuff - I had to detect the mdec playing and display it... ).
The good thing is that ps2's GS supports most of the PSX GPU stuff directly... While some needs just tricky, but fast and realiable hacks.
Anyway, the emu is much more buggy now. The gpu emulated in software was almost flawless, worked very stable and displayed everything as it should. The current hw gpu implementation tends to display a lot of stuff wrong or simply freeze at random spots (ps2 vram in/out transfers mostly...). But it has a great advantage - it is much faster. The games that do not run at full speed now are in fact cpu limited (the recompiler is quite nice and complex, but it seems it's not always enough).

In Rob Schneider voice, "You can do itttt!!"
When there will be a first beta?^^
It was interesting to test it.
Current version could be treated as public preview (not really beta)... If it didn't have so many bugs. It freezes quite often all of the sudden (like when exiting battle in some areas in ff7)... Displays black screens (so you have to chose the options based on what you expect to be on the screen)... Shows garbage instead of 3d scenes (minority to be true... as 3d works now much better than 2d). I'll try to cope with that first.
But, some games do work fine now... Grandia is one of them. It works perfect. Final Fantasy 9 doesn't show menus in battle (or sometimes shows menus but no scene), but otherwise works great. Xenogears has some minor issues (main menu isn't shown, but once you start the game, it works great)... Tenchu Stealth Asassins works fine (and many many more). But most of the games do have serious issues or are totally unplayable.
Don't hurry on that babyTake all the time it needs. This is truely an amazing project and I never thought it would be possible for anyone else but Sony to write a PS1 Emulator for PS2.
Amazing job and keep it up!
I hope it also works on the PS3Can'T wait to emualte a console through an emualted console
