    Instructions PS2PSXe Test-bundle

First of all, I have to thank ffgriever for this great emulator, even so it is far from
perfect and has a lot of bugs (to be honest, I never thought that it will come this far).
I am very grateful for the intense work which he and others put into it.

I also thank Jay-Jay for the bundle he provided and the great compatibility-list,
which is actually the main reason why I put that pack together, to help complete it.

Some thanks also to the creator of BootAdvance v1.0 (Lion –aka- Chris)
which I used as a boot loader for PS2PSXe.

To prevent any mistakes, the only thing I created by myself was the memory-card icon

During my tests with PS2PSXe I encountered a lot of problems, not only with the emulator
itself, but also with the intense data I had to keep in mind (all those settings, games)
and also the problem to have both versions at the same time (r198 and r202).
The PS2 I use for my tests also has no CD/DVD drive inside, I replaced it with an internal
USB-HDD which might also cause some problems I had before.
Those problems were, that when I started to use r202 I suddenly couldn’t start PS2PSXe any
more from FMCB (don’t know if this applies only to a PS2 without drive or not).
Also the fact, that there are 2 versions of PS2PSXe with 2 main settings needed (NTSC and PAL)
bothered me a lot, because the “Save game config” in PS2PSXe did not work for USB.
May be it works for HDD, I don’t know and by now I only use it on USB.

This package is only made for USB drive users together with FMCB!
If you change the config files by yourself, you probably also can use it on HDD.
The folders have to be copied to “mc0” (your first memory card slot and mass0
    your first USB drive).

    How to install:
--Download the package for your console type, NTSC for consoles bought in the USA,
Canada, Japan and all other countries which use NTSC.
PAL for all European consoles or other countries which use PAL.

--Extract the stuff to your PC.

--Use uLaunchELF to copy the PS2PSXE folder to the root directory of mc0.

-- Place the right BIOS file for your console type into the BIOS folder
(try to google for it if you don’t already have it).
scph1001.bin for NTSC consoles and scph7502.bin for PAL consoles,
be sure that the names are all small letters like above!

--Use your PC to copy the other 2 folders to the root directory of your first USB drive.

--Open up the “Free McBoot Configurator”

    --Go to “Configure OSDSYS options”

--Go to “Configure Item” and press the right analog button on your joypad until an empty slot appears

--Enter the Name “PS2PSXE” and go to “Path1”, press square and choose:
    mc?:/PS2PSXE/main.elf

--Then go back to the first menu where you can save your settings to:
    “Save CNF to MC0”

--Save it and go back to PS2 Browser.

    Now you are all set!

    About the Package:

It’s main purpose is to save you the hustle to set up the emu every time again
during tests and after them, it hopefully also prevents the bug with the analog
and digital pad which ffgriever mentioned in his tut.
It’s also helpful to prevent the MC slots to get pumped up so quickly,
because at the end you have the space of 8 PSX memory cards (once you made
up your mind and placed the games of your choice in the appropriate folder).

--Each version maintains his own memory card slots, which means that if you
save a game in may be r198 NTSC, you can only access that save if you load
PS2PSEX r198 NTSC again and start your game with it.

--Of course you can copy the memory card file of MC0 or MC1 over to another
place and then copy the saves to there with PS2PSXe, but be sure,
that you rename the old file first before you copy one over to the place
(otherwise it will get overwritten and is lost for good).
After that you can just copy the file back to its original place and rename
the old one back from before.
    I am talking about epsxe000.mcr for MC0 and epsxe001.mcr for MC1
in the mc folders of PS2PSXe.

--I set up the config files for r198 and r202 NTSC with the settings to NTSC and Bilinear,
also sound enabled and “Wait for SPU IRQ”
The ones for r198 and r202 PAL are set to PAL and Nearest, the rest is the same.

--You can also adjust the config files for every version as you like, but at the end,
there will be 4 different settings left (r198+NTSC+PAL and r202+NTSC+PAL).
You might not need all of them if you have only a view favorite games.

--The last two choices “the Jay-Jay bundle and r202-727” are mainly for testing,
which means that those are the ones where you make your test changes in the config
to see how good or not good a game works.
Once you made your decision, you can copy the game over to the right folder.

--In the main game folder “-PSX-games” are some sub folders which I guess explain
themselves. Use the “TEST-GAMES” folder to put in the new stuff and try it out with
    what ever you like.

So, lets talk about the emu itself:

--r198 is more stable than r202, mostly because of the sound issue, so,
if the game of your choice works fine for you and/or has also some background sound
after or during FMV’s, then you better use that one!

--If you want to get the background sound working, you probably need r202.

--But in most cases you need to be patient with r202, because if you try to skip
the FMV’s, the background sound will mostly hang up until another
    sound sequence is loaded.
In that case you just should try to bear it and figure out if it stops when the game goes on,
or you can try to wait until the FMV’s are over and then press a button to go on!

--If there are still annoying sound problems, it can’t be helped, so better try the r198.

    Some usefull emu keys:

--if you are in the game or in the MC menu of PS2PSXe, you can use:
L1+L2+R1+R2+UP to go back to the main menu.
This works only if the game hangs not completely, just try it.

--Press “Select” in the main menu to go to the launch menu.
    There you can go to:
    mc0:/PS2PSXE/main.elf
then you can choose between the different versions (settings) of PS2PSXE again.
You also can start whatever elf file you want (may be boot.elf for uLaunchELF in the
    mc0:/BOOT folder.

--If you want to go to the MC menu where you can copy some save games from MC0 to MC1,
then go to "Start emulation" without setting up a game image first.
To go back to the main menu press L1+L2+R1+R2+UP again.
If you test a lot, it is recommended, that you use only MC0 slot for your saves.
Then you can easily copy some saves from MC0 to MC1 and copy the file "epsxe001.mcr" over
to another version (to its dedicated mc folder) if you like to transfer your saves there.
Copy them then with PS2PSXe to MC0 and delite them in MC1 again.

For more info about it, please read the tutorial from Jay-Jay and ffgriever.

    Helpfull info about game ID's

Just in case you didn't already know, i made a small list to understand game ID's a little bit better:

--SLUS is a game ID for games sold out in the USA and probably Canada (NTSC format English language).

--SLES is a game ID for games sold out in Europe (PAL format also English language if it has a multi language selector).
(if it is SLES (E) is a game sold out in the UK with English language).

--SLPS is a game sold out in Japan, may be also in other Asian countries (NTSC Japanese, or other Asian languages).

--SLPM is a game sold out in Japan, may be also in other Asian countries (NTSC Japanese, or other Asian languages).

--SCPS is a game sold out in Japan, may be also in other Asian countries (NTSC Japanese, or other Asian languages).

--SCES is a game sold out in European counties (PAL many times also with a language selector, if so, then also with English language)

--SCUS is a game which is probably sold out in countries which are using NTSC (most likely in English language).

This info might be incorect, in case, please let me know and i will update it (i'm not so sure about it, that's why).

    Known bugs:

Unfortunately i encountered a big bug (which is not avoidable).
You can not start the package with uLaunchELF directly,
there are some problems with persistend data in the memory.
Most likely it's the same problem which causes the bug in PS2PSXe.
But any ways, if you boot it up with FMCB it works fine.
And if you are in PS2PSXe, you can easily restart it from MC0
to choose another version (saves a lot of time to do so, no reset needed).

But, if you really insist to start it with uLaunchELF, you still can
Just start one of the GUI loaders in the package on your USB drive with uLaunchELF first,
    may be that one:
    mass0:/ps2psxe/ps2psxe_r202-727/ps2psxe-gui-pack.elf
Then press select and go to:
    MC0:/PS2PSXE/main.elf
Now you can switch between the versions as you like

During my tests i encountered another bug, but it's a bug from PS2PSXe itself i guess.
Sometimes, when you play a game and go back with L1+L2+R1+R2+UP and start another one,
the sound seems to be completely out of line (only beeping and crapp).
If this happens, you should turn off your PS2 completely and restart it again to clear the memory!
The indication of this problem is realy total crappy sound at all!

Another bug might be, that you can't use the game-pad at all
after you switch between some games back and forth.
This might be the bug ffgriever mentioned before,
i need to test it some more and also need more input about it.
    If this happens, just reset.

Sometimes PS2PSXe didn't show some game names (even so you start it the first time).
That might be because there are spaces in the game name, but it's most likely a problem from the GUI itself.
Just load it again which what ever, (if there is a capital .BIN or .IMG, you have to rename it into .bin and .img)!
Normaly spaces in the game name didn't matter at all, but who knows......

If the urmelpack is not working properly, try to use the second USB port for your HDD on the PS2 (sometimes it works better).
I have no idea why (tested it on different PS2's by now, on the old fat ones it works fine, but some slim's have problems).
Maybe i update it later if there are still problems.

This tutorial is probably not finished now, but I post it any ways.
Most likely I will update the tut during time, so just look for changes.
    I always forget something important….

Hope it’s useful and you like it!

    Until next time!

    @mrjared123
    Thanks
Did you try it out already?
    Is it working?

I edited the tut a lot because of many misspellings, that was when i figured, that i also misspelled the name of PS2PSXe.
Unfortunately i used PS2PSXE in the MC icon and also in the Thread name, maybe some admin can at least change it to PS2PSXe
    in the Thread name?

    Thanks!

I didn't try it out yet but soon I will, it looks great from the description. It's a shame that development on this emulator has been stopped, I hope a new developer can grab a hold of this and make the emulator better
    I'm no noob, I just don't post much :P

I updated the package and also inserted a bug report in the tut.
Please read it before you go on and loose your nerves because it didn't work
if you try to start it with uLaunchELF.

Sorry for the problem, i only started it directly from FMCB during my tests,
so i couldn't see any (bugs) so far.
