That would be something if it could, but its to my understanding its not even possible, since its already in PS2 mode and would require re-booting the console into PS1 mode to run a PS1 backup, which i dont think they did, at least not any current SwapMagic's ive encountered.
Maybe they planned to add PS1 booting to a new version, but decided not to and removed the info? I dunno, all i know is there isnt any PS2 software able to boot back to PS1 mode....yet.
Its also possible they meant PSX, which in Japan they did in fact release a hybrid console that was labeled PSX (DVR), but was of both PS1 & PS2 format disc, but Sony opted for the Slim console instead......or something along those lines, so that PSX console never made it out of the JAP Region.

As far I know all Swap Magic does is stop the drive allowing you to swap the disc without the PS2 knowing then it loads OSDSYS.
I did it by putting in a original high TOC PS1 game then loaded the Swap Magic V3.8 Coder ELF off a USB device to make the Mechron think it's loading a genuine PS1 game similar to how the pressed Swap Magic discs make the PS2 think it's loading a genuine PS2 game it then loads OSDSYS but fails on a red screen of death error because it can't authorize the disc type to then pass on too PS1DRV.ELF think of it like the browser swap trick.
I've also tried running PS1DRV.ELF extracted from my V7 BIOS with Swap Magic V3.8 Coder thus bypassing the OSDSYS stage but it fails on the PS1 logo screen so PS1DRV.ELF must have it's own mechron disc authentication as well. This was done a v7 though so I don't know maybe it'd work properly on a V9 with it's security flaws.

Yes, but using the SwapMagic disc is PS2 Format, so it will go into PS2 Mode as the disc is run.
As for using the .elf file, i'd just use the PSXLoader.elf or boot it thru uLaunchELF, but it only seems to work for the V9, although it's been said to work on later consoles, but i havent seen any "conclusive" confirmations reported.
Actually on a V9 un-modified in any way, you can simply swap an original PS1 for a backup at the MC Browser, you risk scratching if you use the slide trick, but it works too.

That's why I said to use the Swap Magic ELF ran through FMCB or uLE with an original PS1 game disc inserted at boot time so the mechron thinks it has PS1 game inserted the PS1 disc will then stop spinning once Swap Magic has loaded you can perform a PS1 backup disc swap without scratching any discs an load the PS1DRV.ELF extracted from your bios with Swap Magic.

I'll have to try that psxloader.elf on my V16 silver slim, i already know it wont work on my V4 and V5 consoles. Works great on the V9 with all those methods; uLE to PS2browser (with disc control ON), Sony MC broswer swap and the psxloader.elf all work perfectly.

Im not sure what hermes made to run on the PS3, but psxloader was available long before the PS3 even came out.
I think its also called psxLauncher, but i dont remember which is its original name.So its possible hermes made a proggie with a similar name, i think he might even be the author of that one too.
