From the fps2bios files I can see that syscall 0x08 is tied to the same function as syscall 0x00 and 0x03 (A syscall handler for invalid/unmapped syscalls).

syscalls 0xFC to 0xFF are originally unmapped in the EE kernel.
syscalls 0x5A and 0x5B are also unmapped in the EE kernel.
