I just got my E3 flasher, originally to test .PUP's but now I'm thinking of trying to convert to a DEX console. Do you think I should I should give it a go or would it be a waste of time ATM.
I know what to do to get it running but any advice or tips from people with an E3 flasher for installing and using it would be appreciated.
all I can tell you is good luck. I've been messing with this for a couple days now. Tried 3 different distros and wasted a whole day and a half on a 3.55 CFW OTHEROS++ that kept locking up on Red Ribbon Linux when it found the OtherOS drive. Had to switch to a different CFW and start all over. I can't read a damn thing that's on the screen (my tv only supports 480 and 1080).
Despite all that I managed to get down to this simple command - sudo ./run.sh. That's the last damn thing I need to do on linux and it seems simple enough but the damn thing won't recognize the / symbol on either one of my keyboards. I would try to just copy/paste the command into the box, but like I said I can't read a damn thing on the screen so I don't know what the hell I'm clicking on. I don't even know if it comes with a basic text editor. Oh, and I can't go online with it to just copy/paste from the wiki because wireless doesn't work without an additional library that you have to download. My router is on the other side of the house and my TV weighs a couple hundred pounds (no joke - 1st gen hdtv)
All I can tell you is make sure you have everything you need. It's frustrating trying to use a half-assed set up like I am. Make sure you use this PUP - OTHEROS-22GB.PUP
I'm so damn sad right now. Spent all this time messing with it and I can't type in a simple command - and the last command at that. I can type it in petitboot, but not in linux where I need to type it. Gonna have to run through the linux install again. Maybe I picked the wrong region for the keyboard

God damn that sucks. I'm going to install the E3 tomorrow, get a good nor dump and have a go at it. I've decided I'll give it a go since I can just flash back and I've got nothing on this weekend. Fingers crossed.
Don't let me scare you. It's not that hard to do - just make sure you're set up properly or you're going to waste a lot of time. I can do the install from 480 and I can read the keyboard setup, but it's cut off and if I remember right the one I need is below the cutoff. Gotta see if I can find a pic of it somewhere, then I can just use the arrow key and count the key presses til I get what I need

I don't know if you finally got your DEX running or no but as far as the resolution goes i connected my PS3 to a PC monitor with a DVI to HDMI adapter and everything is crisp. Although my screen is a 24inch and supports 1920x1080
And about the / problem I had the same issue i over came that by using the / from the number pad area right above number 8
Also my Red Ribbon Linux would also lock up during boot what i did to resolve that was while in shell Step 10 i ran the /tmp/petitboot/mnt/sda1/create_hdd_region.sh multiple times and it finally worked and allowed me to boot Red Ribbon Linux without an issue.
Yeah, I finally got it to work. All my issues were related to my network setup, cheap hardware, and my TV only supporting 480 and 1080. I got around the resolution problem by removing my hdmi cable and using the RGA cord that came with the PS3. It kept it at 480 during the whole install and running of Linux so it was still readable. Before I could do the install at 480 but when Linux actually ran it was at 1080 and everything was too small to read. Everything's fixed
