DEX conversion, compatible 3.60+ backups and Tips

Important note - To avoid the "10 beep semi-brick" before you do anything install QA Flag Extra and enable "System Update Debug"..... There is a small chance(about 1%) that when trying to convert back to a CEX console you may get a semi-brick, this can be fixed with a dongle capable of getting the console into factory mode. Important note (2)- All retail discs will work on 4.21 DEX converted console as of today's date of 9/18/12. This is a list of games tested on the PS3GEN formatted hard drive. For games to work on this hard drive games must have an update file and the update needs to be rebuilt so it's not a retail update.

There is a great tool from PSX-Scene member aldostools called PKG ContentID 1.2 which let's you highlight a retail update.pkg in windows explorer and press Ctrl+Shift+Enter to directly convert it to a DEX compatible package. You need to put psn_package_npdrm.exe (which isn't included but easy to find) in the same folder as PKG ContentID.

Quick and easy DEX Tutorial: Download these: Multiman (or a version with date code later than 20120722) and CEX2DEX and eEID_RKDumper
Dump your CEX flash in multiman: To dump flash: mmOS->Select any file and press"O"->Open in HEX viewer->[SELECT]->[START]->DUMP LV2(NO)->DUMP LV1(NO)->DUMP FLASH(YES)
Run eEID_RKDumper.pkg, you should hear 3 beeps before returning to XMB, then get your eid_root_key from dev_hdd0/tmp
Load your CEX flash dump and eid_root _key in CEX2DEX to create your DEX flash. Look below for Tips if needed.
For NOR flash rename it to my-DEX-flash.EID0.NORBIN , for NAND my-DEX-flash.EID0.NANDBIN
Start up Multiman and press X twice on your new DEX dump, select yes 3 times and it will be installed. Reboot and install the DEX firmware of your choice, go to ps3devwiki HERE and at the bottom of the page you can get any OFW DEX firmware available including the 3.55 Downgrader. Also get Rogero's DEXv2 from HERE, it has all the CFW features you'll need and is also a Downgrader.
You will lose Blu-ray playback after converting to DEX but it should return after flashing back to CEX
If you decide to go back to CEX and you've got a console that was hardware downgraded it is recommended you use a
firmware with "no syscon hash checks" like Rogero's 3.4 HERE to avoid a semi-brick.

ps3gen tutorial: Run ps3gen.exe as Administrator, you may have to disable User Account Control to copy some files and create BD Emulator HDD
Fill in Title ID eg. BLES 01118, Disc Version 00.00, Copyright Holder=sce, Producer Name=sce, Tick Trophy
click Setup Game button, click File... Import System File and load the param.sfo, click content Information Files tab and drag all the picture/.png files over, click OK.
Click Directory and fill the folder structure with the files from your backup, click Build. if the game is too big change Disc Type under the Volume tab.
Select the partition and and click Write Image, if the drive hasn't been formatted yet click Format HDD for BD Emulator, this will destroy ALL data on the drive, not just 1 partition, so backup anything you want to keep.

Tips: ​

• Make backups of your DEX & CEX flashes, the more the better.
• Never enter Recovery Menu while on DEX firmwares unless absolutely necessary, more often than not you'll have to format.
• If you're having problems updating or downgrading on DEX firmwares make sure Boot Mode in *Debug settings is set to "System Software Mode".
• In CEX2DEX if your files dont show when trying to open them in CEX2DEX press the [...] button, browse to the flash dump's location and type *.* and enter and all files will show OR try dragging it over.
• ​To load games from the BD Emulator HDD go to *Debug settings and change Blu-Ray disc access to BD Emulator (USB) and Transfer rate to HDD Native.
• ALWAYS put the ps3gen formatted hdd in the right most usb port.
• If your consoles bluray drive is faulty (and the game you want to play doesn't have an update), to load 3.55 compatible backups that are not discless change Debug settings to USB/HDD, load a game(not necessarily the game you want to play) with ps3gen, be running a 3.55 DEX MFW, choose the game you want to play in Multiman and load it from the disc icon in the XMB
• Only BDEMU slots/partitions 0-9 will accept a .emu file. To put a game on slot 10 to 254 (yes I've tested 254 game works) use DIRECT output option in ps3gen. If you only have .emu file for game as a backup, then rename .emu to .iso and extract with a mounting program (like PowerISO, Alcohol, Daemon tools etc) then build it again in ps3gen and choose DIRECT output. -PatrickBatman
• If you get the 80010009 error while using Multiman change Boot Mode in Debug settings to Release Mode.
• If you get a Trophy registration error delete the trophy data from xmb but if it doesn't work or there isn't any Trophy data to delete try building the game image without Trophy data included and don't tick the Trophy check box.

It looks like Resident Evil Operation Raccoon City isn't going to work even though it should. There's a couple issues I need to check out. The first is that I broke my HDMI cable a couple days ago and won't be able to replace it until Tuesday when I go into town. The second is that I have a US console and the game is UK version. It shouldn't matter, but might be the problem. The third is that it has 3 updates and after rebuilding the pkg files it changes the version to something different than original update pkg. And the last is that the update data is listed as "RESIDENT EVIL Operation Raccoon City Downloadable Content". It might not be working because it doesn't match the title id for the disc.

That's better. I cant get RE to work either, just a black screen. I've got the BLES version as well from disc and it's for my region so it's not that. I'm going to look for other versions.

I'll do the same. Just so you know you have to use 1.00 for the first 2 updates in the package.conf and 1.01 for the third for it to build right. Don't use 1.01, 1.02, 1.03. I'm done messing with it for tonight, but I still think that the difference in the Title ID's between the game and the updates might be causing the problem. I'll check that tomorrow

Don't bother. I get the same thing. I tried every combination except for fixing the Title ID. I'm going to see if I can find the US copy before I go to bed. I'll check more into it tomorrow. There's really no reason that it shouldn't work
