Q: Can I play 3.6+ games?
A: Yes. You can play any original retail disc up to 4.20
Q: Can I play backups of 3.6+ games?
A: Sort of. You need PS3GEN and a usb hard drive split into 4 partitions. 45 gigs per partition. One game per partition... Read on
Q: Can I have more then 4 partitions on one hard drive to allow for more then 4 games?
A: Yes. After formatting the USB Emulator HDD you can use a hex editor to change the amount of partitions and the usable size. Tut here: http://psx-scene.com/forums/content/...ncreased-2497/
Q: If I go to 4.11 DEX can I play my previous backups like I do now?
A: No. You can play any retail disc that exists today. If you want to play your backups you would install 3.55 DEX with Peek/Poke support
Q: If I update to 4.11 DEX or 4.20 DEX will I be able to downgrade back to 3.55?
A: Yes. Just install this firmware http://www.ps3devwiki.com/files/firm...r/PS3UPDAT.PUP
Q: What if something better comes out? Am I stuck on DEX?
A: You're not stuck. Follow these instructions to go back to a normal retail PS3
To get back to CEX/CFW from DEX:
* If you're on 3.56 or higher DEX install 3.55DEX_downgrader firmware: http://www.ps3devwiki.com/files/firm...r/PS3UPDAT.PUP
* You can also use Rogero's 3.55DEX_DOWNGRADER_PEEK_POKE firmware (not tested): R-3.55-DEX-DG-C_F_W-PeekPoke.PUP
*Install multiMAN regular (for CEX/CFW) (otherwise you will get "Error accessing device! Install proper firmware!" error
* Use your original NOR dump (my-original-cex.NORBIN) and rename it to (my-original-cex.EID0.NORBIN) or in case of NAND: Use your original NAND dump (my-original-cex.NANDBIN) and rename it to (my-original-cex.EID0.NANDBIN)
* Double click on your CEX flash file in mmOS (i.e. /dev_usb000/my-original-cex.EID0.NORBIN or /dev_usb000/my-original-cex.EID0.NANDBIN)
* Quit multiMAN and from XMB press+hold {PS} button -> Turn-off the system, then start it again * Install OFW/CFW 3.55 from XMB
Q: Why did my BluRay player stop working?
A: After downgrading to 3.55 DEX from a higher firmware you may need to remarry your BluRay drive
Q: Will I be able to go on PSN with 4.21 DEX?
A: No. Another patch will be needed to re-enable PSN access. The conversion process breaks PSN access
Q: I want to downgrade from 4.21 DEX to 3.55 DEX but I get an error, am I stuck?
A: No, this problem can be fixed by changing Boot Mode in *Debug settings" to "System Software Mode"
Q: I get a trophy error when trying to load a 3.60+ game from the BD-Emulator hdd, is there a fix?
A: Kind of, you may be able to fix it by deleting the trophy data from xmb but if that doesn't fix it or there's no trophy data then build the game in ps3gen WITHOUT adding trophy data and NOT ticking trophy.
Q: I'm getting a 80010009 error when trying to run a BD-Emulator, what happened?
A: There are a couple of games that don't work on DEX consoles yet, if you know it's supposed to work you may have forgotten to install the fixed update or the update is for the wrong region.
If it still errors go to Debug Settings and change Boot Mode to Release mode.
Q: I was told I could play any 3.55 compatible game discless on DEX, how?
A: To load 3.55 compatible backups that are not discless change Debug settings to USB/HDD, load a game(not necessarily the game you want to play) with ps3gen and put the hdd in the right most usb port, be running a 3.55 DEX MFW, choose the game you want to play in Multiman and load it from the disc icon in the XMB
This is just a start. More to come
USER CONCERNS - Please read. There is always a risk involved in flashing your console. The posts below are valid concerns and I try to answer them as best as I can and give a working solution. My response has been tested on my slim PS3 several times, but it is up to you if you decide to try it or not. Nobody can be held responsible if you do something wrong and end up with a brick.
rimi -Correction and this must be everyone know before they do it:Q: What if something better comes out? Am I stuck on DEX?
A: You're not stuck. Follow these instructions to go back to a normal retail PS3
A: Yes and No.
Yes - If you have a flasher with good NAND/NOR flash backup when you were still in CEX and unmodded eEID
No - If you use a full software method, specially if you are going back to DEX - CEX. You will be getting a 100% brick for good. There a workaround on it but it's hell a lot of work to do it (not just a simple mm flash the cex method), specially restoring its capabilities like Blu-ray player and such.
My response - You don't need a flasher. Those instructions tell you how to reflash through multiMAN with date code 20120722. I've gone back and forth several times. deank disabled full flash writing and only allows you to write the EID0 section. Full flash writing even with a hardware flasher is risky and may have to be attempted several times before success
