I think getting your eid_root_key with naehrwert's dump_rootkey save's a lot of time and hassle installing linux on ps3....
Only downside is it's only for 3.41 because of asbestos_ldr.g.pkg doesnt work on 3.55

I apologize if I am posting this in the wrong place. Please correct me if that is the case. I am able to follow this guide easily except for finding the keys via hex editor. I am using HxD and can't find the keys via search or manually scrolling through. I would really appreciate it if someone could give me a little advice on what I'm doing wrong or see if there is a problem with my flash dumps. I have a link for a zip file (Made with the aforementioned Multiman) that is on mediafire and it has four separate dumps. I would post the link; unfortunately, since I only have six posts I can't. Nice guide Dean. Thanks for all your support to the scene.

Use this program instead of c2d. http://psx-scene.com/forums/content/...nor-nand-2426/ It will let you skip the step about pulling the keys because it does it for you. You just put your original flash dump in the first file box and the file you got from linux in the second box. The second file won't show up unless you type in *.* in the file name box while you're browsing. Then just hit CEX - DEX.

This seems to be an easier app to use and will be part of upcoming guide

@digitalverdose - you're probably right but it's something I haven't used and I never recommend anything I haven't personally tested. It is a great tool by a great dev so I'm sure there are no issues with it except for needing to be on 3.41

I am truly grateful. Thanks. Bahumat, I'm now running Rogero's DEX CFW. I had to pee so bad while doing the flash. I was one nervous hombre. I always sucked at hide and go seek. The tension killed me. Is it true that I can update to 4.20 DEX play a game from disk and then revert to 3.55 DEX anytime just by using the regular update option from the XMB? I know the info is out there but it's amazing how fast this scene can find 10,000 ways to skin a cat (and sometimes certain options are less than stellar)

glad it worked for you. You can use 4.20 DEX and go back to 3.55 DEX, then back to 3.55 CFW, rinse and repeat very easily. Going from 4.11 DEX to 3.55 DEX you can use any 3.55 DEX, but some people have trouble going from 4.20 DEX to 3.55 DEX. deank listed a downgrader firmware in his guide. Use that one to downgrade and you won't have any trouble

im a little curious, whats better? 4.11 or 4.20 dex or 3.55 dex with peek and poke? and also IIRC wasnt it possible to play backups(3.56+) via disc on dex?(burned discs)
    Double Barrel Shotgun>AK47.

there were some more security checks put in place on 3.55 so it's not a key issue.

@Noobzilla i was on 3.55MFW (QA flagged (only rebug QA pkg)) and i just downgraded to 3.41 ofw then to 3.41MFW and then used asbestos_ldr.g.pkg,but still only possible if your console "SKU Model" let's you go back to 3.41,check this tut made by DDay http://psx-scene.com/forums/f290/cex...t-easy-104890/ (CEX2DEX, Fast and easy)

@futuretime as far as i know you can only play 3.60+ backups (burned discs) with (retail) update of a game installed before executing the game itself.
so if theres no update for the newer game available you cant execute, check sticky "3.60+ Game Backups working on DEX/DEBUG consoles." for more details.

I'll be posting an altered guide in the next couple days when I have time
That would be great, I don't want to erase my almost fully occupied 320gb internal hdd and I don't have multiport router/switch to do it without linux, so linux on usb hdd would be the best way for me.
