- Tetzrep, interesting findings. Keep us posted.
- rstabbs71, I'm finished with the textures. Just need to work on the normals to complete the mod.

It would be kinda like this:
if you can somehow make it happen, it would be awesome =D

Time to Mortal Kombat
Guys,i downloaded the mk9 texture2d mod from Tetzrep,where do i get the ps3-mk9 char_ (insertcharacternamehere).xxx file?
From the MK9 disc folder,or the ps3 mk9 game data folder?
also once i modified my character using Tetzrep's mod,i need to put it on the ps3 mk9 game data folder, right?
disc data either on a usb hdd or if you have it on the internal hdd of the ps3,if its dlc your modding then it will be on your ps3 hdd,in a map called DLC

so i made a little faq for people who want to mod the textures for MK9(maybe this will boost the texturemods for MK9 because no one has released a single texturemod sins the tools are availible for it)
MK9 texturemodding FAQ
1 what tools do i need before i can start modding the textures for MK9 Characters?
first you will have to get the tools from gildor Downloads | Gildor's Homepage
and download: umodel(UE viewer),Unreal Package Extractor and Unreal Package Decompressor
2 how can i unpack/extract the the CHAR_.....XXX file?
simply just drag and drop the CHAR_.....XXX file onto extract.exe,it now will create a folder called the same as the XXX file you extracted.example:CHAR_SKARLET.XXX will give you a folder called CHAR_SKARLET after extraction
3 where can i find the textures for the characters?
once you extracted the CHAR_.....XXX file go into the folder it created, there you will find a folder called textures,in there you will find the .texture2d files
4 how can i decompress a CHAR_.....XXX file?
simply just drag and drop the CHAR_.....XXX file onto decompress.exe,it will create a folder called unpacked,in there will be the decompressed CHAR_.....XXX file you just dragged and dropped.
5 is there a way for me to look at textures before i extract and decompress the CHAR_.....XXX file?
yes there is,you can view them with umodel(UE viewer)
copy umodel into the ASSET folder (MORTAL KOMBAT 9\PS3_GAME\USRDIR\ASSET)
now open command prompt(cmd.exe) copy the adress/directory of the asset folder, type "cd ",rightclick and paste the directory.
press enter, now your in the right directory, now type "umodel -ps3 -noanim -nomesh "and the file you want to look at,
for example:i want to take a look at the textures from jade costume 2 so i type "umodel -ps3 -noanim -nomesh char_jade_b"(without the .xxx extension)it will now open up UE viewer where i can view things like textures for jade_b,use the buttons pg up and pg dn,to go back and forth with files in the viewer, for more options read the readme included with umodel.
6 why copy umodel into the ASSET folder, why not just copy the CHAR_.....XXX file into the same folder as umodel?
when you are going to view CHAR_.....XXX files with umodel/ue viewer it will also need STARTUP.XXX because CHAR_....XXX files will also use textures within the STARTUP.XXX,so its more convenient to put umodel in the asset folder,as also every XXX will be in 1 main folder.
7 how do i mod the textures and place them back in the CHAR_........XXX file?
there are 2 texturemodtools for MK9
one is from Scorpion2k7 http://psx-scene.com/forums/attachme...uretool_v3.rar tut is included in .pdf
the other is from tekken57-PSG and you can download it here My collection of mods tut is also on same site under "tutorials"
there is also a program/addon from tetzrep for scorpion2k7 tools, havent tried it myself yet,but you can find it here http://psx-scene.com/forums/f180/mor.../index179.html @ post #1786
8 where must i replace the CHAR_....XXX file once i texturemodded it?
you will have to replace the modded CHAR_....XXX file in the ASSET folder (MORTAL KOMBAT 9\PS3_GAME\USRDIR\ASSET) and this would be the in the disc copy and not in the install data, for DLC modded characters, you will have to replace them in DLC folder on your PS3 HDD
9 why must i change the size of the CHAR_......XXX file in the PS3TOC file?
once the CHAR_......XXX file is decompressed and also modded, the size will also be bigger, meaning the size will no longer match the size within the PS3TOC(compressed filesize),thus it needs to be altered.
the tool from tekken57-PSG will provide you the decompressed filesize once you loaded the CHAR_.....XXX file, just copy and past the new size over the old one, without touching PS3TOC to much.
also i suggest before you alter the PS3TOC to make a backup of it.
10 must i also change the size of the CHAR_.....XXX file in the PS3TOC if its from a DLC?
nope simply because they are not in the PS3TOC only which are on disc.
11 once i changed the size of the CHAR_....XXX file in the PS3TOC and i change that specific character back to a compressed CHAR_....XXX file ,do i also have to change filesize the PS3TOC again?
no this is not entirely nessasary,e.g i have done the same with atleast 7 characters, when modding them, and changed them back to the original compressed files, with PS3TOC adjusted to the decompressed size and they all load fine.although i do not know for sure if this affects the memory of the ps3 so i will have to test some more.so to be a 100% sure, just change it to the original size again.
12 so these texturemodstools only apply to .dds textures and not .jpeg textures from within the .XXX files?
yes they only apply for .dds textures, for jpeg textures look for the files in the extracted .XXX files which end with .BinaryBlobJPEG or any file which ends with JPEG example :
BD_cyberzero_color.BinaryBlobJPEG open it up in a hex editor and delete the first 12 bytes (or first 0xB or 0x0000000B) save it,and when its saved put a dot "." before the JPEG like :
if someone has more questions ask me ,and will also put them in the faq
