Simply having a modding community that only exists to reskin the already existing characters is very underwelming for me.
I am not a fan skin only mods as I've lost my enthusiasm for such types of small mods 10 or 15 years ago when being a teenager, such thing had the ability to amaze me.
I am a patient guy that is absolutely not pressing or demanding anything.
I am just saying that if meshes and animations don't become replaceble in this game, I see no reason to have any hopes for the future of this particular game.
To me, the games that are moddable beyond the point of just small scripts or skin replacements, are games that have a future beyond their point of release.
If this game doesn't become fully moddable in 1 or 2 months from now, I predict it will fall into anonymity rather fast, at least on the pc side of things.
i was saying that because all the models weigh under 1mb,the textures however weigh way over 1mb(the normhqa ones, close to 3 mb) and second, the game is already quite moddable: the scriptbinary extractor can allow you to modify the amount of damage certain attacks do,the delay time, etc, potentially allowing a rebalancing of the characters.
i'm sorry, but i call that BS,modding goes way beyond just meshes and animations(and swapping animations is possible in mk9),but that's just my opinion on it.
and for me at least,mk9 is already moddable past the point of just small scripts or skin replacements, hell i've been modding this game in some way or another since september 2011.
I undersatand but it's just that I was hoping that at one point we could bring new characters with new animations or export the already existing meshes and animations, tweak them to our liking and then import them back into the game.
Bringing back characters from older mk games for ex.
Making new arenas for the game, that kind of stuff is what I was thinking of.
Up to the point where it could allow for TC mods like Mk vs characters of a different 3d fighting game of choice.
I would have personally attempted to remake mk1 or mk3 using completely new character models and textures built from scratch with their own new animations also built from scratch that represent the actual 2d sprites of the older games much more than the current ones do.
Just by reskinning current character models to make them look like mk1 or mk3 characters simply doesn't work because of the 3d models themselves which are more buff than the original mk1 or mk2 or mk3 characters.
what you are asking is something that wasn't possible since 2011,i have no idea if it would be possible now.
2. if you were to swap the main char mesh with the meat mesh, then make the game always load the alternate palette, and lastly modify all the textures,it is(in theory,at least) to have a classic costume,it would be possible with rain, but a good chunk of effort is needed. i actually want to do one with reptile, since one of his costumes(the alt. one) looks suprisingly familar to his umk3 one.
you should label them as to what version the mod is intended for,in this case, the pc version.
