Woah! you guys sure are very itelligent, my method sure did fail but maybe we could find a new method. I was reading some comments and i noticed we did not look at the eboot so much like you guys said and we might need to check the dlc to see how everything is laid out. When psn is back up i'll try to get a dlc, right now im just looking over the mk9 files again.

So the Classic DLC for 360 Jtag is on torrents.. I wonder if its possible to rename the files for PS3?
The thing is one PS3 DLC is still needed to see where it goes and what the file extension is..

well heres the xbox 360 dlc
MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service
Mortal Kombat Classic Costumes DLC - JTAG
Included in this torrent is 3 Original DLC that i found, and on which i based the unlocks for the other missing 5.
The original 3 DLC are : Scorpion Classic MK1 Costume, Ermac Classic MK1 Costume, and the Kombat Pass.
Based on Scorpion DLC, i have unlocked the following :
    Subzero Classic MK1 Costume
    Reptile Classic MK1 Costume
    Jade Classic MK3 Costume
    Mileena Classic MK3 Costume
    Kitana Classic MK3 Costume
Everything works fine, the ninjas have their classic fatalities (which can now be used with any costume, once you have the dlc)
I have included a tutorial that explains how I did this. Now this was possible because that DLC was already on disc.
There is a bug , at least for JTAG users where mk doesnt load your profile every time (just relaunch game and its ok) This has nothing to do with the dlc, either retail or custom. In fact, even when that bug occurs, the dlc is still accessible.

It would be great but I guess you should have the activation.dat to use the new dlc in game

It might be that the act.dat file has the characters "cooked" into it on start-up. Which would still require an original DLC to find out where the files go and what they are. (they are probably similar to the 360 way) Been looking around at all the possiblilites in the internal and external folders and I'm at a dead end
Course I'm not half as smart as some on here (not even CLOSE!!) But I would love to help out if anyone gets the DLC and needs people to see where the codes are heading.
By the time Sony gets through screwing up the PSN we will be lucky to be able to sign on without a digital thumbprint and urine sample!!

I just got a scorpion redeem code.. As soon as PSN is back up I'll use it. Hopefully 3.55.1 loophole will still work.. Then it's just figuring out where the files are.

    Hi

To all those working on getting the Klassic costumes.. here are my experiences (all tries with hexediting PS3TOC).

    1) Hexediting coalesced.ini in any way ends up in a black screen, the first Mortal Kombat logo doesn't show up. Anybody managed to achieve a different result?

    2) Swapping files (CHAR_KITANA_D.XXX with CHAR_KITANA_B.XXX) ends up in the game hanging on the loading screen after you choose a character costume you swapped.

    3) Hexediting CHAR_KITANA_B.XXX and various code swapping with CHAR_KITANA_D.XXX, headers, filesystem, whatsoever ends up the same as point 2, it just stops loading earlier.

    4) If you extract the files using quickbms, you'll notice that the filesystem for the Klassic costumes is different. From characters I've tried repacking it was possible for CHAR_SCORPION_B.XXX with CHAR_SCORPION_C due to filesizes, but it ended up - wait for it - in a crash.

    5) Even though the *.XXX are Unreal 3 engine pack files, blatant repacking is impossible due to a different packing method used for PS3 files. Crud.

    6) My last attempt was point 4, but increasing CHAR_SCORPION_C filesize with empty bytes to match CHAR_SCOPRION_B filesize in the CHAR_SCORPION_B.XXX package. Again, no go.

    Sources/credits: the internet, gildor, aluigi.
    Conclusion: ouch.

Anybody managed to modify coalesced.ini and actually boot the game?
