For quickbms - download quickbms, and the mk9 script (link here - Luigi Auriemma). Copy a CHAR_***.XXX file to your HDD.
Open quickbms, select mk9 script, select the *.XXX file and then the output folder. Done.
For Unreal Package Extractor - put it in the same directory as the *.XXX file and use the command line "extract CHAR_JADE.XXX". It will extract the files to a directory of the same name.
For uViewer - command line "umodel -ps3 -nomesh -noanim CHAR_JADE.XXX". Using pgup/pgdn you can swap through textures and certain models, mouse to rotate, but the skeletalmesh is unavailable for PS3 version.
aah finally someone who is doing the same things i did.
i think if we just swap the textures example:lets say in CHAR_REPTILE_ B with CHAR_RetroNinja_Male_MK1 files(and maybe more files) from CHAR_REPTILE_C and repack them we are good to go.well maybe also change sizes in PS3TOC and maybe the ini.but the main concern is "REPACKING" them
so is there anyone outthere with advanced knowlegde to write a program\repacker....
all i know is that the ps3 files of mk9 use compressed chunks and i dont know where to start.
i also tried to find offsets of these files,and try to swap them with a hexeditor
only i could not find the offsets :P
im a noob when it comes to these things :P
Yeah, unfortunately as you mentioned there is no repacker available, and the offsets seem crypted.
Guess we will have to wait for some less-newbiesh MK fan to figure this out.. until then the Challenge Tower awaits![]()
Yeah, not having the repacker does suck, but in time either it will all be figured out (once someone releases some DLC to us) or once they are all up for download someone will put together a pkg file for them.
Just replace PS3TOC.TXT (USRDIR\) and COALESCED.INI (USRDIR\CONFIG\)

Works great!
tested on US version, all characters classics and fatalities that are supposed to be there are, although a glitch I encountered, there's no picture of the kombatant during the loading screen, I'm guessing it's just supposed to be his default loading pic (like selecting costume 2) and the classics don't have their own loading pic, can anyone confirm that?
also noticed once, I babalitied ermac and his baby was blue, although after a second test he was red again, most probably not your fault but a glitch within the game? it's only happened once so my vote goes that way.
but yeah besides the loading screen, this works top notch
