It's really nice of them to not use the geohot npdrm self patches with their dongle. Debug eboots in their pkgs make it a lot easier to look at what they're doing.![]()
Their manager can do some interesting things.
a) Write to dev flash to add PSX support by overwriting category_game_tool2.xml
b) Update the dongle (or probably tell the dongle to switch payloads already stored in the dongle) to change BD and DVD region.
a) is not required on CFW, and b) could probably be achieved by using kmeaw's LV2 Patcher.
It sounds like after the dongle has delivered it's payload it switches to "PC update mode", enabling the manager to change payloads directly from the PS3. Presumably the PS3 then needs to be rebooted for the different region payload to take effect, or maybe the manager tells the dongle to switch back to "Jailbreak mode" and then calls lv1_panic to reboot into the new payload.
Only the payload is required to change BD and DVD region and play PSX CD-R backups, which should be simple to dump as the dongle has to deliver the payload unencrypted. Then it's a matter of applying the patches from the payload to kmeaw's LV2 Patcher.
So besides that we wil soon run psx backups on our ps3s and change region for bddvd - anything else useful?
Oh man... I REALLY hope someone can reverse-engineer this stuff. I feel sorry for Cobra, they're offering some great features that I would love to buy - but they don't support 3.55. I'm crossing my fingers for someone to reverse-engineer the manager and "payload" so that we can have PS1 ISOs on our 3.55-MFW setups.
Well i guess a preowned PS1 on Ebay is cheaper as the Cobra USB dongle![]()
