I'm looking at the True Blue compatibility chart and it uses two terms that I'm not sure about:

    discless
    and
    BR (on bluray only)

For example, Ace Combat Assault Horizon says:
    BR
    Discless: No
    External/Internal: Yes

It says "Internal: Yes" but do I also need to keep my Ace Combat retail disc in the drive? (doesn't this defeat the purpose of the internal hdd backup?)

Then there is Alice Madness Returns which doesn't say "BR" but still says Discless: No.

So what does discless and BR really mean? Can I put ANY bluray disc in the drive? Can I create a bluray disc backup of the retail game and use it instead?

    discless = no disc needed
BR = needs a disc in to play
External/internal = if it works on external or internal

you dont have to have the original disc in of the game you are trying to play any game disc will do it will change to what ever you are playing and as for creating a back up disc you need speacial br discs to do so no point in my eyes

OK - So for non-discless games, I just insert ANY PS3 retail disc and leave it in the drive? Why not just leave a retail game in the PS3 all the time?

...and for "BR" games I need to purchase special True Blue manfactured discs? (ie. I'll just avoid those games I guess)

There is the unofficial patches for ace combat and batman arkham city, where you don't need the true blue disc.

These answers are already included in the compatibility chart. If you look above the chart, you should be able to read the listed DEFINITIONS of what all that information means, plus a lot more!

So for that, I give this topic and it's author a

And the guy who answered above about what BR means, I think he needs to understand what it really means. His explanation seems to mean that any BR disc will work (opposed to discless), which is clearly not the case, you must use the special "TB manufactured BR discs" in order to play those "special" games--but the good thing is some have already been cracked to play on HDDs. It's just a matter of time for the rest.

and if you read properly it was taken that i meant the special br discs needed i have never read the compatibility list nor intend to i own every game i have backed up and play them on my ofw ps3 the cfw ps3 is for the kids so they dont scratch any of the discs so i have no need to read them i back them up if they work good if not i just delete them until they do so sorry if my answers were not to your standards but he obviously got what i meant

Discless is mainly for people with a Broken bluray drive in their PS3 (but the ps3 still functions) so they can play these games off HD as well. Ace Combat works on internal as well as external there are only 7 games right now that require a TrueBlue disc you buy online from China as they havent been released to work off hard drive yet.

And yes generally it's a good idea to leave a retail ps3 game in at all times (not a demo disc) to play discless however you pick app_home on XMB menu not the disc icon.

@badboyz80, I didn't mean to hurt your feelings. I just want the information spread here to be comprehensive from the start to avoid misunderstandings. And no, you did not make this point clear before.

Question? If you never read the TB Compatibility List, then how come you felt you could to decipher the definitions of that list? That is what the author of this thread was inquiring about--did you miss reading that "properly"? -- and don't worry about that, the author of this topic also did not read "properly" the TB compatibly list--because if he did, this topic would have not been needed.

That's all I am saying. Before I start handing out "dunce" caps again.
