yes, perhaps this is the reason "cheap" hub.
I use this one: Targus Ultra Mini-USB 2.0 4-Port Hub Hub - 4 ports - United States --this one requires no external power.
I've been contemplating in using a powered USB hub to see if this increased my speeds from my external HDDs. Someday I will get one to see if it improves--I will report this here if it does.
I place the TB dongle at the very end of the hub and I connect my external HDDs on the side row. Since I use a PS3 Slim, I hook up this USB hub to the 1st USB socket (far left).
I have a cheap powered hub no problems and I only have one working ps3 usb port from which i use it. My games usually dont lag on external unless they're known to lag like Skyrim etc
i forgot a detail, the External HDD is a 3.5 one so external powered, also i read the label on the package, its usb 1.1 lol, no wonder it was that cheap, but any of you guys runs the TB from a hub? the cheap hub worked fine for the move camera and extra controllers, just doesnt have enough transfer speed for the hdd.
BAHAHHAHA! yeah thats the problem. Expect to pay at least 20 USD for a cheap powered hub that can handle ext hd as well
I did say that I run my TB on the hub.. re-read again... :)
