I noticed when I turn on my ps3 with the controller plugged in or my ext. hdd the dongle never turns green. So then I have to turn it off and back on without anything plugged in except for the dongle of course.

I keep mine in the left port and it works fine turning it on with the switch and the controller. Seems like it takes a lifetime to boot though lol

No problems here. I leave the TB in the right port and my external hdd in the left port. It does take a while to boot up though... sometimes as long as 25 seconds. This happens even without anything plugged in. I think it's the TB cfw

These all seem to be BOOT power issues, especially if you upgraded your internal hard drive. Your new and improved HD (more GB storage) needs a bit more power at boot to start thus having all these extra things plugged in at boot takes from the power therefore answering your question. I as well have to unplug my 2 ext HD, controller and everything else except dongle for my ps3 to boot.
