It's probably safe to enter Service Mode. It would be interesting to see if the Exit self works, as well as Geohot's "hello World" lv2diag.self.

That would verify they haven't changed the keys. Beyond that, the simple remedy for the downgrader would be to change the authid again on the app and resign it.

Like I said in the other thread, only somebody willing to risk it, or somebody with the tools to restore their PS3 should try this.
Working hard on UberCFW, incorporating NTFS, sub-free NetFlix and Blockbuster, PSN cheat system with built-in swearbot and MAC-spoofing, Adding MKV, RAM and BIK movie support, and Xbox360 emu*.

*not really. Get a life, newbs...

the only way this wont work is if they revoked it like the 3.50 one. so it will either work and downgrade, or do nothing at all, theoretically. so not really much of a chance of a brick.

but as Ben Jeremy said, someone with the appropriate hardware should try it first.

So they revoked the authid. Whoever changes it, use authid of ps3swu.self,
STOP! Before you ask questions... READ the first post! RTFFP = Read The F*cking First Post
Yes, A 3.55 "jb" (cfw) is available, no >3.55 "jb" or cfw yet.
Yes, A 3.55 downgrade is available. But not to lower than stock firmware! (What it came with)
No >3.55 downgrade is out there yet.

Edit: sorrowuk: You were the one that created the modified lv2diag.self, weren't you?
This method won't work on 3.56; not without the proper key.

Well, we're trying to see what it's going to take to work with 3.5_6, not 3.55

    DON'T TRY THIS ON 3.56 !!

APPARENTLY WE CAN'T RESIGN THE LV2DIAG.SELF AND WE WON'T BE ABLE TO SO YOU WILL BE STUCK IN SERVICE MODE AND CAN'T GET OUT.

so let me get this right. sony have made it so that if u enter service mode u will be compleatly locked in with no way out. seeing as there is nothing illegal or wrong with service mode would this not make this illegal. could people not sue sony for locking them out of there own playstation

    Jap Console/Wutang+Geohot patch CFW 3.55/Gaia Manager 2.04/WD 500gb HDD

But users aren't meant to be able to enter service mode. You need to emulate a sony device to do it. And you have to know all the dongle device id keys and master key etc

NOTE : Service mode is totally different from recovery mode.

Service mode requires a usb dongle to be inserted on startup and goes into xmb with a box saying service mode.
Recovery mode is a menu that comes up when you hold the power button
