It is a pain to help people out of the issues caused by guides like this, so I thought I would illustrate this warning.
Furthermore, I suggest following guides written by actual developers and people in the industry (like myself) over at ps3devwiki.com.
Lastly, while I understand this guide may be written out for 'noobs' - it is not enough to be considered safe. If you value your console you should take a few minutes and read the wiki.

#ps3downgrade
another pointless post.
and done right after i spoke with you. thanks for that.
how about instead of just saying dont follow this guide like the rest of them do. you actually point out how and where this guide is wrong.
it covers everything the downgrade any E3 guide does and more. (you know the guide posted on the wiki) only i do it a different way round.
and i dont cover pointless bits like hdd serial numbers.
i also link the verify page on the wiki and say go there once the checks here are done.
no other guide actually shows what to do. they just give the basics then links back to the wiki with a "here you go figure out how to do it attitude"
i show them how to use the tools.
then when they go to the wiki they have a good idea of how to follow it.
if my guide bricks then tell me where and i will change it.
i dont do it for the devs i do it for the everyday people.
and what the hell is wrong with my rear usb mod??
geez your just out for me arnt you!!!!
lets see you have ago at gregory raspuntin for his rear usb guide. no? didnt think so

On the last section of the E3 Flasher guide something went wrong. I was on the section "De-hashing" and at that point everything was working fine. My PS3 Firmware was on Rogero 4.11 and I installed and toggled The QA Flag and did the button combo on network Settings and got the extra selections. Then I did the step to go to OFW 3.55 then at 24% my system shuts off for no knowledgeable reason. Now my system does not stay on for more than 5 seconds. Nothing loads up on screen. After 5 seconds all lights shuts off completely and the only thing functioning is the eject button when I press it (Which all I get are three beeps when pressed, as if no game is inside).
I have my bios backed up but the system does not stay on long enough for the E3 Flasher to work.
I looked all over the web for solutions to similar problems but no luck. The only thing I hadn't tried was the swap out the HDD on a different system and format it or replace the PSU.
My system is a CECH- 2501A.
Min Vervion Checker said I can go as low as 3.50.
Metldr: 0x81E: E9 60 0x842: 0E 92
Bootldr: 0xfc0002: 2F 53 0xFC0012: 2F 53
Mother Board: JSD-001
I double checked this wiki ps3devwiki,com/wiki/Validating_flash_dumps and it said my board should work.
Everything matched in the dump as shown in the guide and was good so my system should have accepted the downgrade. I figured it would since Rogero 4.11 was working in the De-hashing step.
Also another weird thing is when I hold down the eject button and plug the power cord in the system stays on for about 10-20 seconds but the fan goes crazy fast and loud.
Any suggestions would be great. Thanks ^^
did you have everything plugged back in?
hdd
bdvd drive
wifi / blue tooth airel's
you need to connect sbe to tristate (on the board) to halt the ps3
then follow the guide from the 1 key downgrade step
once you have flashed the patch back on the ps3 remove the tristate /sbe and carry on following the guide.
but makesure everything is plugged in

Hey guys, I was just wondering if someone could help me.
I'm thinking of buying a E3 flasher (not the limited version so I wont have a dock)
I'm nervous because it doesn't mention anything about flashing a slim without a HDD attached, also I was wondering if I could do the "fastest method" of this guide if I am on 4.31 OFW, I have a PS3v Dongle that I have set as a down grader as well as a PSP-1000 with PS3Jig on it, so which one should I use if I have to use the "fast method" and not the "fastest"
I really appreciate anyone who takes the time to respond, I'm new to all of this but generally a quick learner, my main priority is knowing how to flash without my HDD of my PS3 slim actually connected.

the part where you get the shield from off the cpu and gpu, must of been where i messed up the connection to what i think was the gpu
i did not start to relise this until after i had connected the nor clip to my samsung nor chip and was noticed that when i tried to update the e3 flasher firmware that i had no lights at all on the e3 flasher after turning on ps3 and wating
then i took the e3 flasher off to test my ps3 and found i had no audio or video, i thought it might of been unrepairable because i thought i cracked the motherboard trying to separate the cpu and gpu thermal paste sticking to the shield
i let the ps3 sit for a few hours then it started up, and would freeze, i got happy thinking it is probably just the gpu solder balls
i have a AOYUE 968A+ and i followed this guide ... PS3 YLOD FIX Reflow with hot air gun - YouTube
i bought the AOYUE 968A+ rework station about 8 months ago and never used it, i also had got flux, leaded solder, solder balls , jig> i guess taht is what its called) and screens for reballing xbpx and ps3 chips, and i bought a arm lamp that i used to position the air gun
i followed that guide 100c for 5 minutes 210c for 10 minutes on each chip and now its working again
im glad i damaged the ps3 gpu connection , gave me a reason to use the AOYUE 968A+, i had bought it to reflow my old fat 3.55cfw ps3, but decided to i wanted to learn about downgrading nor and not nand at this time anyways
glad i bought it now tho, i got a hot air gun but its much safer to be able to set the exact temperater
i still plan on finishing the downgrade, its a 120gb 2000 DYN motherboard, i got lucky when i bought because i bought it before i knew that newer slims cant be downgraded
i thought about getting into repairing systems but i just imagine alot of customers might want to rip me off
i get ripped off enough sometimes just trying to buy a system let alone offering a service

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Cleaned up the post and moved the "recycle your old flasher" to a new thread in the buy / sell section on ps3hax.
Removed the individual links to the trusted downgrader own pages and added a link to
@GregoryRasputin
's trusted downgraders thread.
There are more people listed there and it keeps this guide less cluttered
Added links for the upcoming TEENSY++ 2.0 NANDway & InFeCtuS guides

I just bought a progskeet 1.2 to downgrade my nand ps3, but the shorts test from winskeet tells me there are quite a lot of shorts.
Hmm seems i can't post images yet: It tells me there are shorts in DQ13, DQ14, DQ15, GP0, GP1, GP2, GP3, GP8, GP9, GP10, GP11 and GP12.
I can't detect anything wrong on the progskeet's board, and i've seen some topics on other sites that it's a problem with winskeet. Is that true? Can i just use it to downgrade my ps3 because it's just the winskeet software that thinks there are shorts while there are none?
Anyone got some experience with this?
