QA Flag Downgrade Tutorial (3.55 and below) [NEW]
QA Flag Downgrade Tutorial (3.55 and below) [NEW] –
NOTE : You cannot downgrade to 2.30 or lower with this method. You can use this method down to firmware 2.76. I haven't tested firmwares between 2.30 and 2.76.
So, here's a little tut on how to QA flag/downgrade your PS3 to any firmware supported (pretty simple actually).
I saw a few people still trying to downgrade via service mode and messing up, while this method is much safer and easier.
You can only do this on firmware 3.55 or below! This does NOT allow downgrading from 3.6x+ (even if you QA flagged on 3.55 then updated) as Sony modified the token encryption on those firmwares, so the 3.6x firmware will not recognize the QA token as valid.
Credits to gitbrew for their tools, people at PS3devwiki for the PUP list, Ifcaro(?) for Version Check PUP.
So, here we go :
1/ Download Gitbrew's OtherOS++ 3.55 Special CFW (regardless of which firmware you are currently on) here : http://gitbrew.org/~glevand/ps3/cfw/...++-SPECIAL.PUP
This does not install OtherOS or Linux! It is only a firmware that supports them. We're using this firmware because it has the required patches for QA flagging.
Put the PUP file on an USB stick at PS3/UPDATE/PS3UPDAT.PUP and install it via XMB or Recovery Mode.
Also, once the system is QA flagged, it will stay QA flagged, so you only need to install it once.
2/ Make a backup of your dev_hdd0/home folder via FTP! There are reports that people lost their trophies or act.dat file and became unable to use their PSN DLC after QA flagging. This is not confirmed, but better play it safe.
3/ Download the QA Flag package here : http://gitbrew.org/~glevand/ps3/pkgs/qa_flag_extra.pkg
Install it on your PS3 and run it. If the tool works, the PS3 will beep.
You now have a system that will accept lower firmware PUPs. But there are a few more steps before downgrading.
4/ You can skip this step if you don't want to go below 3.41, unless you have a newer slim (CECH-25xx) in which case you have to do it.
You now need to find out which firmware is the lowest you can downgrade to. Easiest way to do this is to use MinVerChk : http://psx-scene.com/forums/content/...eck-tool-1238/
Once you have it, put it on an USB stick at PS3/UPDATE/PS3UPDAT.PUP and try to install it via XMB. You will get an error message telling you which is the lowest version you can install on your model (here's an example from my system) :
Do not bother trying to downgrade to a firmware lower than the one it tells you, it will refuse it no matter what you do (even service mode downgrade won't help you).
Note : The lowest firmware you can downgrade to is not necessarily the stock firmware (firmware your PS3 originally had). For example, mine came with 3.50 stock and lets me downgrade to 3.40.
5/ Grab the firmware you want to downgrade to. You can find most, if not all of them on this page : http://www.ps3devwiki.com/index.php?..._Package_(PUP)
Put it on your USB stick as PS3/UPDAT/PS3UPDAT.PUP. You can also downgrade directly to a Custom fimware (Hermes 3.41 for example, or even your own firmware made with PS3MFW).
DO NOT USE THE 3.41(3.56) PSJB OR WHATEVER YOU WANT TO CALL IT DOWNGRADE PUP!!!! It is only intended for service mode downgrade. If you're downgrading to 3.41 OFW, use the stock Sony one!
6/ Make sure you have no PS3 game inserted in the drive. Boot into recovery mode (downgradiing from XMB is currently not possible, it gives an error message while copying the files). Once there, choose the 6th option "System Update". It will ask for your current firmware version or higher, but don't bother! It will accept a lower one as soon as it's not lower than the one from step 5 (if it is lower, it will tell you the data is corrupted).
Congratulations, you have now downgraded your PS3 using the official Sony way . Enjoy

Thanks. Yep, I saw that, just thought it wasn't detailed enough

umm, a small question ^_^ .. I'm running KMEAW 3.55 CFW right now with multiman 2.01.00 installed.. Am I going to lose any data (pkg) installed if I updated to OtherOS++SPECIAL firmware? or it will be the same except with extra QA flagging support??
One last question:
as quoted above
I have another phat console with 3.56OFW installed.. will this OtherOS++SPECIAL.PUP work? "noob question, i know, but i'm only wondering "
The 3.6x firmware will not recognize the QA token as valid
Does this format the HDD or lose blu-ray playback?
You will not lose any data by installing the special firmware. And no it won't work on a 3.56 console, as it is a 3.55 fw.

As for blu-ray playback, I can't say for sure, but I doubt you lose it (it's the official sony way of downgrading after all). You might want to backup whatever file it was that gets deleted with service mode downgrade if you have a NAND ps3, and see for yourself :P

I'd like to copy blu-ray movies using my ps3, but I heard it is possible only with OtherOS using Swiss_Sak_v1.00, I'm using 3.55 CFW with this can I downgrade to a version that I can copy blu-ray movies?
Have you tried to backup a blu-ray movie with multiMAN? I believe it works.
