Hi gents,
thank you for this great website avoiding people to look at fake solutions on the internet, I am wondering if my NOR slim PS3 320GB with ref. CECH-30D3B can be downgraded to 3.55 as for now it is on the firmware 4.00 and on the PS3 wifi website it says that the factory FW for this PS3 is 3.60.
your help would be much appreciated.

It's all just rumor right now, so if you have no reason to update your PS3, then don't update it. If you really need to update it, then perhaps that is a risk you want to take.
If we just go by the track record of the scene, this is how it went down.
- Dongle broke 3.41
- Dongle reversed, 3.41 brought to entire scene
- Devs break 3.55 (latest OFW at the time)
- Dongle break 3.60+ keys barriers, and release game patches
- 3.60+ keys found, and scene releases it's own patches
- The Next Step (?????)
Now following the pattern it does look like 4.21 could be the next big step for the PS3 scene, but we just never know.
Ok, this is my first post so hello! I have a few questions. I've read through a few of the posts and I just can't seem to find the information I'm quite looking for. First of all, I have a PS3(Fat), CECHP SKU(2.50 FW on release date) and it's currently running 3.66 OFW. I would like to jailbreak it, if possible. I know I'll need to downgrade, which is why I posted here first. From what I read on www .ps3devwiki .com/wiki/SKU_Models, it looks to me as if it is indeed downgradeable. So, I'm clear about that. Now, is this a mod that can be achieved without buying additional hardware? If so, I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction. I'm not a rookie when it comes to jailbreaking/modding(iPhones/PSP's/Wii's), but I AM new to the PS3 JB scene. Just trying to go about this the right way. Thanks in advance!
EDIT: Somehow I missed the second page of this exact thread. So, it looks as if I'll have to either wait it out or get my hands on a Teensy++ / Progskeet / E3 Flasher. That is, if I'm reading correctly...
ok just to help round things up.
there is no cfw above 3.55
the only way to get back on 3.55 from a higher firmware is to use hardware
some 2500 model's cannot be downgraded at all
no 3000 model's can be downgraded
the hardware options are :- ProgSkeet / TEENSY++ / E3 FLASHER
all 3 can be soldered directly to the mainboard or called motherboard etc
all 3 can use a clip to attach directly to the NAND or NOR chip(s)
the ps3 slims are NOR type
early PHAT ps3's are NAND type. later PHAT model's are NOR.
the ProgSkeet will read / write both NAND & NOR chips
the TEENSY++ will read / write to NOR only
the E3 FLASHER will read / write & fast duel boot NOR only (the E3 website states NAND aswell but currently it isnt possible)
you also need:-
Progskeet: a DEV board for service mode if solderless:- NAND = 360clip (nand) & "Y" board or NOR = 360clip (nor) (but this needs a pin removing and it isnt easy)
TEENSY++: no DEV board needed as it is a DEV board & if solderless:- 360clip (nor) & a set of jumper cables
E3 FLASHER: a DEV board for service mode & a micro sd card (it comes with a NOR clip)
Based on the rumors and how things are, I currently have a 4.2 phat ps3 (not updating it 4.25).
Would I still need to buy additional things, and/or open the ps3? or would the new CFW be self sufficient?
there exists no cfw above 3.55 for now, and the only way to downgrade your ps3 and jailbreak it later is via hardware.
i highly recommend the e3 flasher card, because of the good results i've seen of it.
