I ran the flat cable under the hdd cage so I could keep my hdd in place the only downside is you can't keep the e3 hooked up when you put your ps3 back together.

Like this you don't have to connect the part of the e3 that goes into the hdd bay "that's to use the esata for your hdd" you put your hdd in like normal. Get some cardboard, tape and a game case or two to support everything and you'll be fine just use your head and don't let anything short out.
imag0391.jpgimag0392.jpg I used a usb hdd connector to hold the back of the e3 up and the wire is from the SBE to the Nor Tristate had a brick.

so im confused, where exactly did you place the e3 hdd replacement and why and how did you support it? in the pic theres no disc part, do you need that to boot the ps3 and can you run the ps3 with it open like that? so the way you did it theres no need for esata station? sorry for so many questions but thank you very much

I ran the flat cable like normal then when I put the top back on instead of running it into the hdd bay I ran It under it so when you plug the e3 into the flat cable it'll sit under the hdd bay instead of in it. I did it like this because I have no esata station. I used the connector in the pics here imag0395.jpgimag0393.jpgimag0398.jpg to support the back of the e3 a game case between the ps3 and the back of the e3 will work just as good to hold it up we're just preventing shorts fold up some cardboard just don't let the e3 touch anything . imag0399.jpg Here is a pic with the disk drive in place. The ps3 runs fine open like this. Here is a good link for you to have a look at E3 - PS3 Development Wiki. No problem happy to help.

Hope these help some you can see how I used two pieces of cardboard under the back of the e3 and one big one under the front and the game case on the side the make everything sit nice and flat when you flip it back over. imag0400.jpgimag0401.jpgimag0402.jpgimag0403.jpgimag0404.jpgimag0405.jpgimag0406.jpgimag0407.jpgimag0408.jpgimag0409.jpg
