Ok this is where I'm at - I got rid of the wrong hd message. I got a screen saying to plug in the controller. I was following a guide that said not to do that but to go into FSM from there. I had E3 reader in right slot and hit power and eject. Didn't get into FSM - now PS3 won't stay on.

I came into PS3 when 3.55 came out so I never had to use these f***ing dongles. Could somebody please tell me what I'm doing wrong and please, please, please give me a step by step. I'm not an idiot but these lame guides out there are getting on my last nerve. I had read up on it on the wiki last week and understood that but now that I need it I can't pull up the page

    Enter Factory Service Mode
REMOVE ANY DISC's in the BL-RAY Drive
UNPLUG ALL USB DEVICES FROM THE PS3
Turn OFF PS3 - If not Already OFF
    Hard Power OFF PS3 - Switch(Fat) / Unplug(Slim)
Plug in your Service Mode Device in the right most USB of the PS3
    RIGHT MOST of the USB. 4-USBs: [-N-] [-N-] [-N-] [-Y-] | 2-USBs: [-N-] [-Y-] - N = No - Y= Yes
    Hard Power ON PS3 - Switch(Fat) / Plugin(Slim)
    Touch Power button - FRONT
Touch Eject button - Right after power button.
If disc is in the PS3 hit it a few times to get the triple beep eject.
PS3 will turn ON then Turn OFF - 5 secs
Unplug your Factory Service Mode Device
Turn the PS3 ON and check that you're in Factory Service Mode
Now Plug in a Controller via: USB

If this is any different from the E3 thingy I can't help you on that. Don't have one, didn't need one.

    i accepted your friend request.

    im on now.

but here are the files you need to downgrade back to 3.55

make a folder called "Rogero v3.7" and put this in it.
    rogero 3.7

then download this as "file 1" and "file 2"
file 1 (to be used with the rogero 3.7 pup)
    file 2 (exit FSM)

    here is toggle qa.pkg:
    toggle QA.pkg

    here is 3.55 OFW:
    3.55 OFW

flash your patched dump, get into FSM then do this.

    once in FSM:
    1. put the rogero pup file above and "file 1" on the thumb drive (not e3 card reader)
    2. put the thumb drive with rogero 3.7 and file 1 (lv2diag.self (366 kb) into the right most usb slot.
    3. power on ps3 and let it install the pup. will take 5-7 mins usually
    4. once installed, take the thumb drive out and boot the ps3. it will take it prob 30 secs maybe to boot, this is normal. just verify it goes to the xmb.
    5. just verify it boots. once you verify, turn the ps3 back off, and put "file 2" on the thumb drive by itself with nothing else on there.
    6. put thumb drive with file 2 (lv2diag.self 202 kb)in the right most usb port on the ps3.
    7. boot the ps3, and it will shut off by itself.
    8. once it shuts off, take out the thumb drive and boot ps3 noirmally, you will have to go thru the welcome screen or w.e like as if it was brand new.
    9. be sure bluray is hooked up.
    10. install and run toggleqa.pkg
    11. do button combo and then go to debug settings and be sure to turn system update debug to ON.
    12. once you got it toggle qa'ed and system update debug is ON, then install 3.55 OFW from recovery.

once you have 3.55 OFW installed, you can update to any CFW or 4.30 CFW if you want to.

p.s. i cant send you any more pm's. your inbox says its full

    PLEASE DO NOT HOTLINK. THANKS

I think I'm on the right track. Apparently I was in FSM but since I had no screen and the PS3 was shutting off I didn't know it for sure. I put your lv2diag.self and PS3UPDAT.PUP on the drive in the folders you mentioned and I got an updater.log file that said it was looking for the PS3UPDAT at the root instead of the folder. I tried again with it at the root and got no updater log this time. I think my esata station isn't working properly. I had to remove the flasher to reinstall my HD directly to get the wrong hd message to go away earlier. Might be same issue.

Gonna try to pop out the E3 again so I can put my HD in directly (its larger than the stock so I can't leave the clip cable installed without screwing it up).

I'm having one last issue I want to take care of before doing anything else. I can't seem to get my esata station to work. I know that the hard drive inserted is working b/c I've done nothing else since fixing the brick. It's the stock hard drive that I don't want to use because it's only 120 gigs and the 1 TB drive that has everything on it is larger than stock so it won't fit without removing the e3 flasher nor clip

What settings/dip switches need to be set on the flasher to use the esata station? Also I put paper on both sides of the flasher to prevent it grounding out like the wiki said to do but it didn't say anything else about it

first Congra. fixing your PS3 i am glad .
second i dont quite understand what do you mean which setting need on flasher to use esata station .
me and my friend used a e3flasher for a downgrading a console and btw i never used Esata Box .we only used esata cable .

i am sorry dude i just want to help but i cannot get to understand your meaning here .i may have some info about it .it maybe useful .

and as you said there are many guidess over the net but none of them are clear enough or easily been cleared i only used E3 Wiki.

and also i never passed to update my E3 Flasher with Upgrade.bin it never worked for me but i neglected that step and went a head and successfully downgraded a console of a friend of mine .

it thin the update is only for dumping the NOR flash three times .
