Hello,
I got a PS3 today that has 3.41 but it won't let me upgrade to 3.55 because it says I need 3.56 or higher. I think it was spoofed as 3.56 when someone installed 3.41.
How do I downgrade it now so I can get back to 3.55?
Thanks!

well there is no software currently to downgrade from 3.56 or higher to 3.55 or below in this case you need a hardware either Progskeet or E3 Flasher
There are a couple of things you could try. First, I would go to REBUG.ME (link in my sig) and install the 3.41 CFW, and then try to install 3.55 OFW over that. Otherwise you will need a device to put your PS3 into service mode. You can pick up an E3 from VGCRepairs.com for $7. Or if you know someone with any kind of jailbreak/clone dongle, ask them if you could borrow theirs; God knows they're not using it
After that, I suggest you visit GITBREW (gititbit.ch link in my sig), and figure out how to QA FLAG your console, so downgrading will be simplified.
He said his system is already on 3.41, but when he tries to go to 3.55, it is asking for 3.56, because some must have downgraded his console from 3.55 to 3.41, but forgot the 3.40 part so he could upgrade back to 3.55.

Use a jealbreak dongle end put ps3 into service mode end dowgrade to 3.40.Go out in service mode, then normaly update 3.55 OFW in to system menu.
It isn't actually on 3.56 though, in the system info 3.41 is installed. I think what has happened is someone has used 3.41 firmware spoofed as 3.56 to trick into downgrading to 3.41. So I'm not on 3.56. Any ideas?
Thanks
EDIT: Thanks for the detailed instructions guys, I will follow them and report back. Can I use my PSP to get into service mode?
Thanks
You can try it. It was made for a PSP-1001 5.50 GEN-D model/CFW.

those who downgrade the ps3 from 3:55> 3:41 a using the modified 3.41 pup ( virtual 3:56 pup). You mast downgrade agein to 3.41 or 3.40(original not modified pup)and then is work correctly.
What stdule is saying is correct, it may read 3.41 in settings but PS3 is reading it as 3.56 (your PS3 HAS been downgraded from 3.55 with a dongle) do as stdule has instructed use a dongle put it in Factory Service mode then downgrade to 3.40 (don't forget to backup dev_flash3 if Nand unit) from there you can upgrade to 3.55 without a problem.

How important is it that I backup my NAND? If it is can I do it with the PS3 in service mode because I'm not sure I am on CFW therefore I can't use blackboxftp.
Thanks!
It seems the idiot that had this PS3 before me did not backup the Blu ray files as it wouldn't play any title before I installed the firmware. Is there anyway of restoring playback short of finding out which Blu ray film was the last to be played in the system?
Thanks
