Buy e3flasher or wait –
My ps3 is running on ofw 4.0 and I want to run cfw. But at the moment is there many news about the ps3 that he is fully cracked.
Came there in a few weaks a solution to run cfw on a ps3 with ofw 4.0. Or must i buy a e3 flasher?
And is 100 dollar a good price for a e3flasher?
I would stay on your current firmware and wait. There may be a new CFW or software downgrade method soon. If that never comes to be then sure, get an E3 flasher.
Did you know when is soon?
Could be next week. Could be never.
I would buy it.
First, the current lv0 hack does not mean in any way that there will be a software downgrade soon.
There are cool firmwares at the moment, but nobody knows how long it will take somebody to decrypt the firmware signing keys.. as far as I know, this
has nothing to do with lv0, but it might happen again.
But more than this, the E3 flasher can be used for more than just the ps3, even coming consoles, phones, set-top boxes and many more things use flash technology.. so I would buy it just for this reason
This has been the question on my mind since I found out about the keys being leaked in the first place. Apparently, we will never be able to because we dont know the private key used to sign the updates. We knew it all the way up to 3.6 and then it changed (beats me why we havent made any 3.6 pups with 3.55 fw data). Either way, i say if you have a nor console, go right ahead and buy the e3. Installation is simple, especially if you've fixed ylod's, I'm stuck on an old FAT that uses a NAND chip so i would have to solder it on and thats no go for me...
I still think that some talented people out there will find that private key and one day will be able to sign a valid pup ... at least pre 4.x. Now that we've figured out how to play 3.56+ content ... the focus should switch to finding a software downgrade solution as truly "the final hack", and nail in the coffin. I do not pity sony at all since they have a new console coming out in less than a year.
I like your enthusiasm for the talented devs, but I doubt these keys will be discovered. If the method works like PGP, then rest assured it's locked up tight. There would have to be a leak from Sony.

Well, I walked into Sony HQ and asked them nicely, but they said no.

Basically the algorithm does something along drawing a line on a graph (and graphs of lines generally are drawn from -infinity to infinity, meaning any possible point), picking a random point (out of INFINITY), then using that point in an absurdly complicated formula to draw an ellipses. Then (through more complicated calculations) a point is chosen on/within the ellipses, and the private key is derived from that.
Basically, unless someone with access to the private key within Sony leaks the key, we are stuck and hardware flashing is the only way to fix it.
EDIT: I do want to state that the reason we got the 3.55 private key (and opened CFW in the first place) was that sony failed in implementing the ECDSM the first time and accidently made it so the key was able to be calculated. Rest assured that Sony fixed that little bug in 3.6X+ and we probably won't be so lucky this time around.
But can't someone break into the physical location where the hard drives which store the data are kept?

Or how about paying them off? Bribes usually do wonders if you aren't up for espionage or kidnapping.
