Have a the older design ps3 needs new blu-ray drive but was working fine as a video player on the older (3.41 i sure) firmware.

With the interest of playing backups, attempted 3.55 (official) firmware upgrade but reaches 70 odd percent and gives the error telling to switch off for a while and try again, displaying the 8002F14E error message...

I ill be gutted if ive just bricked this console! there must be some way of fixing this, surely? There was absolutely nothing wrong before the attempted upgrade.

any input would be much appreciated, cheers

    loaded update off usb stick

From all the reading ive done it appears that formatting the internal drive and having usb stick with 3.55 firmware on at the ready may solve the problem SO....

Using Diskpart & Admin Tools in XP i formatted the ps3 internal to NFTS (connected internally to my pc)

Formatted usb to fat32 and lpaced firmware file in directory structure PS3\UPDATE\

So i reconnect HD and start command console, it gts to screen where it asks controller be connected via USB and PS button pressed, BUT when I connect controller the 1-2-3-4 led's on the controller just strat flashing and pressing the button does NOTHING

    This is SO frustrating.... :'(

The USB cable connecting controller is one I made by wiring up myself, Yhe first time i connected it, some of the 4 bare usb wires were touching so i re-wired - its DEFINITELY wired up correctly now...

Any help would be great, thanks allot

I have RULED OUT the possibility of controller being faulty by connecting to my PC (win XP 32bit) using drivers and can configure in game options via control panel no problems, registers all movements with no faults.

OK, FORGET about the controller problem, reset using little switch on back of controller, i can access menu now.....

when i try updating using official 3.41 firmware on usb, for 30mins now its constantly "checking" and showing no progress although ill leave it and see how it does...

Also i dont have blu ray drive connected at the moment, is there a specific firmware i should be using to bypass? before i messed it up it was running 3.41 with no problems, was using it as a glorified xvid player

    cheers guys
