4.31 downgrade to 3.55 help

hey guys i have myself an old phat ps3, (i think this bits right) a cechc03, used to be JB long time ago but now it has the 4.31 on it is there anyway to flash it back with a usb drive or would it require a hardware flash. iv been reading through a few posts but some of the guides seem abit outdated or not very clear. by chance could anyone point me in the right direction or let me know if its at all possible?

You need a hardware flasher.

so guess totally replacing/formatting the hard drive wont do anything? is hardware flashing difficult?

The firmware is stored on a NAND/NOR chip on the motherboard, so replacing the hard drive would be pointless.

You have to solder a progskeet to the board to downgrade. Or buy another ps3 with NOR so you can use the E3 which is solderless.
