I just took the original image duped it, erased the original text, repaired the sword.
Then I created a new text layer and rasterized it then filled the text with white. Then it was just a simple erase job to create the illusion of the blade going through the text.
Finally a new white layer underneath both edited layers to fill any gaps.
I like photoshop, it is one of those things I keep coming back to.
Here is one I did a year or 2 ago for someone

Not bad, you have some great skills with the program, I may eventually ask you to help out with the signature requests, if I find myself to busy. Glad you like the program, I have also written up a tutorial on something that just might interest you. Check it out in the design corner. Once keep it up the great work. tthousand will be most pleased with this. 
If you are a dedicated Psx-Scene member I may just consider making you a signature. You should see some of the work that I have done with the other members requests.
