Question About Installing Package Files
Question About Installing Package Files –
01-04-2012,09:50 PM
So far the only way I have been installing my package files for kmeaw is via USB Key and the XMB menu item "Install Package Files" under the Game menu. I setup blackb0x FTP so I can transfer package files over to the PS3 but I am unsure if I can install them there. Is it possible to transfer package files over via ftp and then just run them on the PS3 without having to use the USB stick?

Read this: http://psx-scene.com/forums/f149/how...nal-hdd-81168/ (Howto install pkg files stored on the internal HDD)
As an alternative (since I am also quite lazy to get off my chair and go plug/pull a USB Key from my PS3 Console), I leave a USB Key (15GB) always connected on my PS3, and I just FTP the PKG files to it (that's if they happen to be small PKGs, the larger PKGs, I make an effort to get off my lazy chair.)
PS3: Slim 320GB / CFW KMEAW 3.55 / multiMAN v04.xx.xx / blackb0x FTP Server v1.2 3.55 w/ FlashFXP 4.2.x
PS2: SLIM & PHAT / FreeMcBOOT w/ESR & OPL 9-r651 / SMS w/PSClient v1.3.1
PSP: PHAT / 5.00 M33-6

can't you ftp to dev_hdd0/packages if you have the updated package manager on kmeaw?

What would happen if I put them in there?

This article says that I will need the use of "dev_blind". Specifically it says "dev_blind (this i think need a FW with peek/poke, i use Wutangrza)". I am using Kmeaw 3.55. Does this have peek and poke? What is dev_blind? I'm sorry guys. This is all very new to me

first thing - if you're new to this, then DO NOT MESS WITH DEV_BLIND. it let's you modify the flash. you could end up bricking your system if you don't know what you're doing. As far as the package manager you may need to get an updated one here - Package Manager 0.9 Installer 1.1 | Codename: REBUG . If you create a folder on your internal hard drive called packages it gives you a location to install pkg files from without using a usb key. This is useful obviously if you don't have regular access to one, or if you run across items that are bigger than 4 gigs (such as resident evil 5 gold) All you do is ftp the pkg files to dev_hdd0/packages/, then point your package manager to your internal hard disk and install from there. It's been a while since I've used KMEAW but I'm pretty sure you have peek/poke. Currently the best custom firmware is 3.55.2 Rebug with the .6 update. You can find it on the site I linked to above

I've never tried to install a package from the internal HDD. I use the alternative method I mentioned above with FTP with a USB dongle or external HDD. Makes my life easy and I don't have to pull or plug anything on my PS3--unless they are very large files.
I gave you link where the discussion has taken place. I don't know if that is still the case or there is a newer method.

Everything worked out great. I visited the Rebug site, grabbed the 3.55.2 firmware, applied it over the kmeaw firmware, then updated to .6. Package Manager is downright awesome! Some of the files I was trying to transfer over my USB key that were giving me trouble are now installing just fine. Thank you so much for the help guys!
