Playing Backups from DVD - Error During Start Operation
Playing Backups from DVD - Error During Start Operation –
I was hoping to be able to copy my games to DVDs and BDRs to save having to keep them all on the PS3 Internal Hard Drive or an external drive. However I can't get it to work.
To test with I found a small game that fits onto a single layer DVD as I didn't want to waste DVD-DLs or BDRs so I used Avatar which is just under 3GB. This game runs fine from the internal HDD from Multiman or Iris Manager when a retail disk is in the Blueray drive.
I first tried copying the files onto a disk using Imgburn and burned at 6x as it is the slowest my burner supports. I then did the same in Nero but burned it at 16x. I then tried the option to create an ISO from within Multiman and copied that to the PC and burned that at 6x.
I have tried loading the disks direct from the XMB and from within Iris Manager and Multiman but nothing will work for this disk:
- Using Imgburn to burn files at 6x gives "An error occurred during start operation 8001002B"
- Using Nero to burn at 16x disk is not recognised (probably due to the speed)
- Using Multiman to create an ISO and then copying to the PC and burning with Imgburn gives "An error occurred during the start operation 80010006"
Am I going about this the wrong way?
I am running Rogero CEX 4.30 v2.05 and the latest builds of Multiman and Iris Manager and have a FAT PS3 model which was one of the original 60GB models but I have upgraded the internal HDD to a 1TB drive.
I have spent quite a few hours trying to find information on how to do this and from what I have read it seems like it should just work.
Please can someone tell me what I am doing wrong before I waste any more disks. Have I missed something obvious?
I did read about needing BDEMU2 .pkg but then that seemed to just relate to 3.55 and said it was built into recent builds of Multiman
P.S. I can never play games using the Load Last Played Game Option as it always just returns to the XMB so I have to use the / App_Home / PS3_Game link instead which works as long as a retail disk is in the drive.
Is it only me that is trying to do this or have I posted the question in the wrong place?
I have bought some blueray disks but don't want to waste them by doing the wrong thing.
Please can someone confirm either way if this is possible.
Does no-one know or is my question so obvious that no-one is bothering to answer?
Sorry if I have missed the obvious but I did search before posting.
As far as I know this is not possible, getting a game to run through a manager and off a disc is not the same thing, it needs a middle man. In the case of PS3, it's a manger. You can't just burn the files to another disc an expect it to load. Even the older systems needed to have a loader file on each disc, or patch, like the Dreamcast. It might be possible but I think one would have to have full knowledge of the keys to make the PS3 think it's a legitimate blu-ray game and not a pirated one. Plus I think you would need to use blu-ray's and not dv's. I'm sure someone's tried/trying though. Another issue is burning out your drive quicker, I prefer using hd's as it prolongs it's life.
Thanks for the reply.
It probably is easier just keeping the games on either the internal hard drive or an external one but I just wanted to put them onto disk as well. I'm not sure why but just think I feel safer having backups on disk rather than hundreds of files on the hard drive.
Although I couldn't see it written anywhere that you could do this it did seem to imply you might be able to with talking about BD emulation although I know that was more targeted towards people who didn't have working BD-ROM drives and/or who wanted to direct-boot the game without having an original one in the drive and it also seemed to only relate to 3.55.
Thanks for your reply, I will give up for now and avoid wasting any BD-R disks trying to get it working.
