How do you backup protected saves ?

Sorry if this has already been asked, but is there any way of backing up saves that you normally cant via the XMB ?, examples would be Killzone 2 and Resident Evil 5. I have 2 PS3s, a phat running Kmeaw and a Slim running rebug, Im planning on returning the phat back to OFW so I can use PSN but I want to copy all my saves over first, Im using the fake game save feature in rebug and it works perfect with the saves I have been able to transfer that aer not protected, so I assume the it will work for protected saves as well provided I can get them off my phat PS3 and onto a memory stick.

Can you not just copy them using an ftp server?
