Can we play Games Stored on PC or NAS through FTP and Gigabit Ethernet?

So i am buying a new HDD for my media Files and Games Storage.

I do not like to have an external HDD besides my PS3.



I will use this HDD either as NAS connected to my router with gigabit ethernet

OR

as storage for my drive in my PC connected to the gigabit ethernet router



The drive will be 6gbps SATA 3.0 drive in my computer

OR

a USB 3.0 on both NAS drive and router


The space between my router and PS3 isn't more than 5metres of LAN cable 1 way.



So will the setup work through FTP?

i doubt it. Not to bash the ps3 modding scene but the talen isn't there like it is for the xbox scene. we're still using XMB as our main console menu yet every other console since 2001 has had some kinda replacement.
