I've gone through a lot of cables and decided to buy a crossover cable online, and It is a crossover cable from ebay. It just arrived a few days ago but I can't seem to make it work on my ps2. It doesn't show up my games and I can't even ping it sucessfully. (sorry for my english)

Could be broken upon delivery if crossover or not should work to ping it so something is either wrong with wire ps2 or pc

I can actually connect my desktop to my laptop which makes it a crossover cable right? I followed the IP configurations correctly but still no success. Maybe it's on my network adapter on ps2? I have a modded SCPH-75001 ps2 slim, I have never used the network.

You could use a normal cable and try SMS player with movie to see if it works if so then it is the crossover cable if not then it is pc or ps2

SMS works with either cross or normal cable

I'm back! But with nothing good to say. I tried it with SMS but, wew, still can't connect nor ping the ps2. So this means it's on the ps2 network adapter?

Well before giving up if you have network disk boot and connect to internet to see if you make connection would check the ps2
but use either net cable for it not crossover

If you can make connection with that then that leaves crossover or pc and just possible wrong config in ps2

I'll try to do that too and maybe I'll try the router method instead? Is there any difference in loading speed for a direct connection and the router method?

Yea the router method if you use it for other connections sometimes causes more lag but still better then USB mode
While if use crossover has direct connection less packet lag
