Pls Help! PS2 black screen upon startup –
08-08-2012,09:09 AM
I have bought a slim PS2 (SCPH-70006) and it was 5 yrs old.
Have been using it on and off for abt. 2 yrs and suddenly took it out but realised that the display is black and no sound at all when connected to the TV with the plugs turn on. Could someone pls tell me what is wrong with the set?
Pls advise.
Thanks in advance!

Bro my ps2 model no. 70012, I have it now for about 3-4 yrs. I really don't think that the prob is overheating. mine is not modded but I do have fmcb on memory card, now I am thinking fuses might be bad.

I know that there are many fuses on the PS2 board but which (1 or more) is the exact one?
Is SMT fuses different from those common long transparent fuse?
Why do those fuses fail so easily? Didn't the PS2 set undergo quality check testing??

I have a PS2 Slim which I bought 2-3 years ago. Around August I unplugged it after playing and used the A/V and power cables on a PS3 Slim for 3 months. THen I plugged the PS2 Slim again and turned it on but it never shows the starting animation, that little show of lights every time you power it, but I get a black screen.... Did you find the reason?

Maybe searching for this on google you can find more information. I found a PDF document about the fuses, it has the following header on google search:
Surface-mount Fuses Fundamentals - Mouser Electronics
Maybe that helps answer your question. Have you had any luck, please, respond whenever you can.
