InkRibbon: Are you aware that there is an option to play PSX games even without a modchip?

It might work with the fat PS2, but it works at least with the PS2 slim.
Man, I don't know if you are awere but there's a lot of problems playing psx on ps2, that's why everybody is waiting for a emulator....

You know, the ps2 is my first video game, so I don't have the old psx games which are not so easy to find here in Brazil, especially the RPGs that I like. Even if I have had the psx, do you know how much a PS3 game costs here in Brazil?? R$200,00 wich is about $107,00. Taday our minimum salary is R$545,00 but by the time of PSX it was R$120,00, so you can immagine that it was for rich people. Yes, I download most of my games in the internet.

Than, we have a lot of issues with the memmory card that's is very hard to find as well, especially a sony original... and even harder is to find one that works in ps2.... Than, with the emulator we can copy our saves to the pc, with the mommory card we can't...

Other problem is that the psx cds don't fit very well on the ps2... sometimes they scrach a little...

Well, hope this answers your question.
Sry, I dont mean to sound offensive.

I just mean that there is the option to play PSX backups with the slim PS2 without using a modchip. All you need is an original PSX game, it doesn't have to be the same game as the copy.
(But yeah, I cannot tell you if and how hard it is to get a single psx game in brazil)

I don't use it, but I heard there is a MC1 emulator. It allows you to use your PS2 MC for PSX games.

"Other problem is that the psx cds don't fit very well on the ps2... sometimes they scrach a little..."

    Sure about that?

Do you have the fat or slim PS2?

"Even if I have had the psx, do you know how much a PS3 game costs here in Brazil?? "
Dont you mean "psx game" instead of "ps3 game"?

Oh, you can copy your saves to PC from a MC as well, though, I am not sure if you can easily use them at the PC for an emulator, but I guess there might be a way.

Simple use ULaunchElf to copy the savegames to a pin drive or HDD, then connect it to the PC.

Thing is, even ffgriever isn't sure if the emu can work as best as psx game copies by CD might work. Though; I must admit when I read those comments it seems the emu makes great progess.

I really don't want to be the bad man, I really just want to give you a helping hand. Would I write this wall of text if I would want to harm you?
Hey Bas, sorry if *I* sounded offensive, I just wanted to explain my situation...

Well, to do what you suggest I would have to use swap magic or some trics to let the ps2 cover/case (don't know the right word) open. this is not really good to the console, especially to the part that launchs the laser that we here call cannon. And some CD-Rs do scratch , you can hear it... I have the slim model.

The emulator of psx MC, I heard of it too, but never really saw it...

For the ps3 games I just wanted do make a connection: if the ps3 games cost R$200,00 today, with a better econnomy in Brazil and the salary in R$545,00, you can imagine what was the price of a psx game in a screwed up economy with the minimum salary in R$120,00... it's not that harrrddd to find games tough. I have a friend that had a psx, but his games were pirate...

What I really want to know is if a psx cd works in the emulator, bacause it's not working here, it just goes to the BIOS with the options for MC and CD Player...

To open the disc tray you usually dont need anything special for the slim. It is just the problem that the console recognizes it.
You need to apply the "sensor mod" for it.

You just need tape and a screwdriver. Basically, there are some kind of switches inside the ps2, 2/3 of them, you just press them down and use the tape so the console has the "feeling" they are taped down all the time.

Then, turn on disk control at ULE.

Start the console with an original PSX game. Hold the hotkey for ULE (for me, it is R1), you might need to configure for that. Now open the disk tray, the cd should have stopped rotating around. Now insert your backup game disk and go to /misc/PS2browser. Now the PS2 menu should open for a short time and the game should start.

To see if you did things right, simple open the disk tray while the original game is running (I think you can do this also in the ps2 browser). If done right, the disk should still rotate and not stopping it when you open the disk tray.

Yeah, but as I said above it is unlikely it will be compatible to all games and they will nto always work 100%. But I agree, is it a jumbo project and I wish griever much luck.

Going to try this isntallment out? Got any qs left?

No, thanks... I saw some videos on youtube teaching how to block the sensors of ps2... I'll try it out but I'm not sure if I'll keep using the scheme... don't want to reduce the time life of my console.

Thank you very much for everything.
