    Hi

I just got my first PS3 today. I got the slim version with 320gb. I came home and thought, lets have some fun and jailbreak this thing!
So I started it up and played around with settings and stuff (have no games yet - since I want to jailbreak).

Then... Out of nowhere... I get very, very sad.

I see that my firmware version is 3.65 .. I almost started to cry :P

Anyways, do you think I should just update to 3.72 and play "normally" for now? (because I just want to play the fifa 12 demo for now :P) Or will there be new jailbreak for like fx. 3.65 before 3.72? (if there is ever going to be one?)

Hope you can help me, or give me pointers :P

    Kind Regards,
    Sterion

It has been about 9 months since the latest custom firmware was made (not couting re-releases of CFW 3.55 and 3.41), so who knows how long it will be before someone manages to crack the newest firmware protection and make a new CFW version. It could be 1 week, 1 month, 1 year or 10 years, no one here knows for sure. It is pretty much a waiting game. You decide for yourself how long you want to wait But there are no news or hints on the horizon (at least as far as i know) that indicates that a new PS3 CFW version is being made anytime soon.

Personally, this is what I would do. I'm assuming you bought your system new and is still within the return policy date. Take it back, make up some BS about a random stuttering problem and random freezes. Get your money back and go to a pawn shop or Game Stop and buy a used or refurbished system. A pawn shop will let you hook it up and test it before you take it home. Check the firmware before you buy it. That's where I got mine almost a year ago when the scene started taking off. It was a 160 Gig system (I think from the uncharted bundle) that I was able to talk him down to $150 from $230. I've since replaced the hard drive with a 1 Terabyte hard drive and bought a 1 Terabyte external drive for those stubborn games. I have close to 200 games on it and have not had any problems with it whatsoever. Don't worry about not having a warranty, most pawn shops/game stops have a return policy that gives you enough time to test the machine out for problems. Also 99 percent of the time sony will honor it's warranty without a store receipt if the manufacturing date is within a certain period (they can tell by the serial number). In the long run you'll come out better saving a good amount of cash. Good luck

Okay I think I will go back with it today.. So if I look for another machine, will I be able to format it back to under 3.55, if it has been updated? Or should I just look for one under 3.55?

A system that has system software above 3.55 can be downgraded, but as far as I know you need aditional hardware to do it. Save yourself a lot of trouble and look for a machine with 3.55 or lower firmware. They aren't hard to find at pawn shops. Once you find one make sure you install the official 3.55 firmware from Fony and then install a custom firmware. Stay away from Wankiko's firmware as it is known to cause bricks and has very low compatibility with software. A good one to start with is 3.55 KMEAW or you can try 3.55 Ultimate. I have used both and had no problems. 3.55 Ultimate is the more recent CFW. Next install the latest version of Rebug's version spoofer. It tricks the system into thinking you are on the latest system version and prevents accidental system updates. Then look for the latest version of Multiman making sure you install the bdemu pkg. Once you do that you can start playing your backups with no problem. I think you said you didn't have a game yet. Even though it is not required to have a game for some games, you will have greater compatibility if you do have one inserted in the drive when you try to launch a game. Just find the cheapest used one from a pawn shop or gamestop. If you have any problems there are many good guides on how to do the upgrade, but if you have trouble you can contact me and I'll try to help if I can. Good luck and good gaming
