just have a question

I m going to buy my first PS3 today and want to know how do i play backed up games that my friend have? OR where do i start from?

Welcome to the site but I'm sorry to say that you've put the wrong foot forward with your first post on a number of levels.

I'm going to presume you're not a troll and because you're from Oz, here's some quick advice.

If you're buying a new PS3, you're only going to be able to play games on original retail discs or ones you've personally downloaded from the PSN.

Reason for that is your machine is going to be on a firmware higher than 3.55 - which is currently the latest firmware with which you can still modify/hack your PS3.

So, first word of advice, if you want to be able to modify/hack your PS3, find a second hand one with firmware on 3.55 or below.

Second word of advice, don't ask how to play downloaded games you don't own. You will get banned.

You can play backed up games (that you own), on a modified/hacked PS3 and there are plenty of tutorials on how to modify/hack and backup on this site. Just use the search function - it's very good.

Third word of advice, don't type in upper case when you type. It's like you're shouting and is considered rude and likely to be ignored - like what was happening until I replied. ;)

Finally, good luck with your endeavours and if you strike a problem or are not sure after you've had a go, by all means post again.

hey thanks for the advice, I bought the new one not from any retail stores but from a similar site as ebay, i check the fw version and it's 3.56, it's ps3 320gb slim, the serial number on the box is CEOH-2502B, please let me know if i could install backed up games of my friend on it that's the only thing i wanna do

Sorry mate, 3.56 ain't hack-able atm.

You may as well log on and update to the latest fw IMHO because there's nothing specific to that fw that might help you..

There's a rumour of a new hack for 3.55+, who knows it might be legit or when it will be released.. sooner or later I'm sure someone will come up with a fix..

Only other option is to look at the kits (eg progskeet), that might allow you to downgrade your PS3 to 3.41 or 3.55... might be a long shot with yours however as I think the console has to have been on a lower fw at some time...

I don't know, these things haven't come out yet either but are due for a release soon..

If it makes you feel any better, you're not alone in your predicament, there's lots of fellas in exactly the same boat as you....
