Hi to everybody who is reading this,
I have got a couple of questions on my ps2 slim.
    serial/model nr. SCPH-75004 PAL.

as you can see from the model nr. i have a PAL ps2 slimline.
a have made a mistake about a year a go and i went on the internet buying a gameshark system from ebay... not knowing this wouldnt work on my ps2.
so i bought it and it came in the mail on my doorstep.
i booted my ps2 after putting in the gameshark disc.
right away i got the screen about inserting an playstation or playstation 2 disc...
so i found out that my ps2 wont swallow this disc the right way.
lateron i found a buddy who has a modded slimline. on this ps2 the disc worked just like it should. only not on PAL games.

my question is about just one other alternative for the gameshark system.
wich i found the other day online.

    this is the:
PS2 Action Replay MAX EVO Edition 64MB - PAL version
    info:

Action Replay MAX is the ultimate PS2 game enhancer, and this EVO Edition comes with a 64MB MAX Drive flash pen. Transfer codes and saves with ease, and back up your memory cards to your PC's hard drive!

Packed with even more playable cheat codes than ever and boasting the best code support of any video game enhancer, Action Replay MAX boasts an amazing array of game-busting codes, allowing you to beat any PS2 game with a whole host of 100% unofficial cheats that you won't find anywhere else. Instantly acquire infinite health, infinite ammo, heaps of money or whatever else you need in your game. Unlock secret characters, levels, vehicles and much, much more. Play your games ways the programmers never intended…

If you have broadband enabled on your PS2, Action Replay's Advanced Code Engine (A.C.E.) automatically downloads a game's codes direct to your console. What's more, Action Replay is the only cheat code system that automatically recognises the game that’s in your PS2, taking you straight to its specific codes.

MAX also includes DVD Region X, a dynamic region-enabler that lets you watch imported DVDs on your European PS2. Just the thing for those Japanese anime films you’ve always wanted to watch, or that Hollywood blockbuster that appears in the States several months before it’s released in the UK.

And to cap it all, this EVO Edition of Action Replay MAX also contains a 64MB flash drive and all the functionality of our MAX Drive product. Not got broadband? No problem. Action Replay is still easy to update, using your EVO Edition flash drive. You can archive your saves with the flash drive too, moving them to your PC using the provided software, and transferring them back to your PS2 memory card when you need them again.

If you don’t have the internet at all, new codes can be entered by hand using a standard PlayStation 2 game pad, or via a compatible USB keyboard. Action Replay MAX EVO Edition is quite simply the most advanced cheat code system ever developed, yet it's so easy to pick up and use.

    Features

    * Preloaded with over 30,000 powerful cheat codes for PS2 games.
    * Get infinite health and ammo, unlock characters, levels, vehicles and more.
    * Turn your PS2 into a multi-region DVD player and watch movies from other countries.
    * Pack up to ten times more data onto any memory card using the MAX Memory Manager feature
    * Download game-busting PS2 game saves direct to your memory card
    * Recognises your game disc as soon as you insert it.
    * Unrivalled code support – the fastest codes for all the biggest and best games.
    * Intuitive game-style interface that's a joy to use.
    * Includes a 64MB flash drive and MAX Drive functionality.

the only thing it doesnt say with which versions of the ps2 works. so i was wondering have any of you ever used this typ of system on a PAL ps2
and to be precise on the same model i have?

just lemme know or any other advise is also appreciated.

    greetings arjaan

in your case best bet would be to install fmcb with your retail gameshark disk.

after a succsesful install of fmcb you could start a patched codebreaker.elf from memeorycard and download day1 files via broadband.

don´t use armax or gameshark crap because you have to bet if it work properly with a slim ps2two.

NTSC disc on unmodded PAL == RSOD !

Try to get Xploder / Xplorer CD/DVD for PS2. It can use RAW HEX code just like Codebreaker while AR/MAX can ony use the encryted ARMAX codes which are sometimes hard to maintain (manually adding ID to the games that are not listed isn't easy to watch over the more you add).

oops, i guess i misread something.

a xploder or armax is one solution for cheating on a pal slimline.

but these devices are crap means they have not the big amount of codebreaker functionality.

to find a way to install fmcb (exploit, swap magic, volunteers who install it etc.) and run a codebreaker could not be wrong.

so two birds hit with one stone, fmcb as the best modchip alternative (even better) and the best available cheatdevice.

Yes, and for one of recent manufacture (v18 model == SCPH-900xx) there aren't many alternatives, since modern CodeBreaker elfs do not work at all on these consoles. One such alternative that you did not mention is "SwapMagic v3.8 coder" (aka: SM3coder), which includes both a way to boot homebrews from MC or USB and a cheat engine compatible to the newest console model. This is what I use myself in place of FMCB and CodeBreaker on my SCPH-90004 console.

but these devices are crap means they have not the big amount of codebreaker functionality.
That is unfortunately true, but more importantly, no one has as yet done similar work for them like ffgriever did for CodeBreaker, to allow the cheat engine to be launched in resident mode while exiting to a homebrew program for the game launch instead of forcibly booting a CDVD disc.

to find a way to install fmcb (exploit, swap magic, volunteers who install it etc.) and run a codebreaker could not be wrong.
Sure, that is an excellent way to use cheats on the consoles where it will work.

so two birds hit with one stone, fmcb as the best modchip alternative (even better) and the best available cheatdevice.
For the consoles where they will work, I agree.

But for CodeBreaker elfs this excludes the entire SCPH-900xx series (since late 2007) and for FMCB it excludes all of those that have bios v2.30 (since mid-2008).

And that is why we still need other cheat engines than those patched CodeBreaker elfs.

One really interesting project would be if someone could patch the older CodeBreaker versions (like CB v7) in the same way that ffgriever did for modern versions, since those old versions apparently do not have the problem of incompatibility to the new consoles (probably because those CB versions don't use USB). So if we just had a way for those old CB versions to exit back to a homebrew with the cheat engine resident, the main problem would be solved.

    Best regards: dlanor

indeed, i thought about this solution, too.

this would sold out most restrictions for slimline users.

I could test the CB V7 patch if it's ever created since I own that one.
