Directions to create my own codes

I am looking for good directions to make my own Gameshark 2 version 3 codes or CodeBreaker codes.

As far as I know I need these things.

1. Hex editor or debugger for my PC - I found naplink, PS2DIS, and GSCC.

2. A USB to USB cable.

3. A disk with the naplink client on it to load in the ps2.

4. A modchip - I don't like the knife swap method.

5. And finally GS2 or Codebreaker CD.

Is this all I need? Please advise.
